    Any Porcupine Tree fans

Porcupine Tree has become one of my favorite bands. They sound a bit like old Pink Floyd. The front man, Steven Wilson, is considered a genius in music circles. The drummer, Gavin Harrison has won the Modern Drummer magazine readers' poll for "best progressive drummer of the year" consecutively in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Oh, a fellow progressive rock fan! Yes I like PT. A few years ago they played locally, and I found out the day after :-( Anyway if you like PT you might also like Blackfield, another band fronted by Steven Wilson.

Another band that is different yet reminds me of PT is Riverside from Poland (touch more metal). Really like them. And from Germany there are Sylvan (skip the Studio stuff and check out LEAVING BACKSTAGE) and Vanden Plas. And then of course there are Spock's Beard, Flower Kings, Marillion and (tour starting tomorrow) Transatlantic. I really like their older stuff, but their last album is just not working for me otherwise I'd be flying to see them.

I have not listened to Radio at all in the last few years, but spend a lot of time listening to these:

    http://www.morow.com/
    http://www.deliciousagony.com/
    http://auralmoon.com/

The last two seem to play more Jazz and experimental stuff lately, so I switch whenever I don't like what I hear.

So what other progressive bands do you like?

I wouldn't call myself a prog fan. I have fairly eclectic taste when it comes to music. I think it was Aldous Huxley who said "90% of everything is crap." That seems to be true of musical genres for sure. I grew up listening to the Yardbirds, the Beach Boys, The Beatles, Iron Butterfly, The Ventures, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Emerson Lake and Palmer and Classical.

I like Blackfield alot. I'm not that fond of Riverside.

Ever heard of Camel? How about IQ?

The new Jeff Beck cd "Emotions and Commotion" has got some really sweet stuff on it.

Thanks for the links! I am listening to morow.com now. "Octavarium" by Dream Theatre.

Arriving somewhere but not here isn't their best. Good, but not the best.

Here is how to fall in love with them:

Not a big fan, but I really like their track "Ice".

IQ I like a lot, though the jury is still out about their recent stuff now that Martin Orford left. My favorite is their 2005 recording from Nearfest, a quintessential summary of their music, and I really like the energy that comes across from that live recording. It is hart to find, I got it from their "Stage" DVD (which is also hard to find). "Subterranea : The Concert" is great too.

Jeff Beck is kind of hit or miss for me. Some of his stuff I really like, other not so. I'll check that one out. Of course that eye candy bass player he had lately helps:

Probably my favorite Jeff Back recording, a song written by Stevie Wonder BTW.

My favorite PT is probably Dark Matter:

"The Sky Moves Sideways" is another great track.

              Wood_workur:

The youtube you posted of "Trains" wasn't PT. It was a cover version. I love the song though.

              Try this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmoagjB-S_k

There isn't much PT that I don't like. Even the stuff I don't care for that much is pretty good.

Darn, I know all those fancy looking scribbles at the beginning really said something...
