Can we stand another computer question?

Ever since I re-installed XP, whenever I turn the computer on, I have the option to boot to XP Home Edition or XP Professional. Since I don't have XP Professional, is there a way to keep this option from showing up when I start the computer? Actually, I know there is a way, I just don't know how to do it.

I think that you have two entries in your master boot record, and you should be able to remove the xp pro entry with this, however I'm not terribly sure.

      Right click on my computer,
      • select properties
      • move to the advanced tab
      • under ’startup and recovery’ select settings
      • in the dialog box you have a couple of options
      • if you wish to not see the option screen you can simply set the 'time to display list of operating systems:' to "0"

I think that'll take care of it.

Thanks for the replies. Ray was right. It worked like a charm. Life is easy again.

Later versions of Windows have a stupid habit of "looking for" other versions of Windows to add to this boot menu. If you use external USB drives for backup, as I do, when you connect that drive your XP will "notice" another Windows out there and will add it to the boot menu. The technique Ray posted takes you to the page where you can manually "edit" the list of "available operating systems." This is actually a hidden, system, read-only text file in the root (C:\ typically) of your computer. Each time Winblows finds something it thinks it recognizes, it appends to this file. You can eyeball that file and you'll see the "XP Home" or "XP Professional" to help you identify which line is which. The first should be your normal boot option.
