Yet another thing to worry about for our kids

    Chatroulette:

The idea sounds kind of cool, sort of like speed dating, but I foresee a lot of issues especially where teens are involved.

No, I haven't done it yet, just read about it 5 mins. ago. I'm too busy dealing with REAL people in the same room to worry about this.

Yes, I saw that featured on one of the morning TV shows.

As a soon-to-be father of a baby girl, none of this new stuff is making me all
that happy to be a parent. I just hope we raise her right.

Do latch key kids still exist? The only ones I see are in high school. They
might actually be playing hookie. Everyone younger seems to be guarded
from the point they leave the house to the bus stop and back again.

If there are no parental controls and other safeguards, I'm not sure it's a good idea...

I saw it mentioned on a comedy show a couple weeks ago and tried it out. First thing you see is something to the effect of "adults only, no nudity, report inappropriate cams" but after chatting briefly with a Parisian about the American Revolution, I realized pretty quickly that the "no nudity" part was only a suggestion. Not my cup of tea.

Since then though I've come across a couple funny videos of a piano improv guy chatting: (NSFW - Lauguage)

...and then that let to another funny version of that -- live in concert -- by frontman Ben Folds: (also NSFW - Lauguage)

I prefer the edited youtube versions of ChatRoulette - if you try it you'll find out why!

Not much can be done to control this sort of interplay. What is troublesome is this statement: In ChatRoulette, there is no registration or login; staring into the bedroom of a complete stranger is fascinating and completely disconcerting.
