    Roku digital media player (updates?)

I've been looking at the Roku since Loring's thread last year and I just pulled the trigger on it today.

Call me a geek, but what sold me was the developer API, the fact that they don't mind if you hack away at it, and the ability to create custom "private" channels like this one. Plus I saw the Wood Whisperer listed as available on the Roku site -- I don't get any woodworking shows on basic cable...

I'd be interested in hearing if people still like it...

My goal is to finally ditch cable TV.

Never used the Roku, but I'm quite excited about the Boxee Box coming out. Should do everything the Roku can do (except netflix) plus more.

Ordered Wednesday, received today. In about 5 minutes I had it set up, and so far I'm completely head-over-heels sold on this thing. I want to check out my options for getting the news, but then I'll be canceling cable in the morning. (If it only lasts 45 days, then it's paid for itself!) Woohoo!

The Netflix instant queue is simply genius!

I want the Roku media player, but I get more programming by connecting my
laptop--although not nearly as convenient. If the Roku could play all the
free streaming shows from NBC, ABC, CBS, etc, then I'm in.

I've had the Roku for about a year now - got one of the first.

I have FIOS internet, a big antenna on the roof for OTA HD tv - now about 28 channels, and the Roku box.

(I actually have 2 Roku devices - a media player for Netflix and the other channels and a Soundbridge to bring my music from my PC to my home theater. Both use my wifi network to operate.)

We are extremely happy and the $9 per month for Netfilx is an excellent deal. If I need a newer release instantly, I hit a Redbox for a $1 rental - often you can get free rentals.

Roku has excellent forums. I'm a beta tester and have gotten some funds to test Amazon on demand and bought some videos that remain in my online library.

Very happy. The released a Wii disk to stream Netfix thru this and I have it working (won't take advantage of it now). There is also a Windows Media Center Plugin for Netflix thru my media center PC.

          Great product.

I'm also looking thru the Beta channels and there are interesting offerings.

Don't have the Roku but I do have the Western Digital TV Live and I am pretty happy with it. Have not tried using any homebrew apps that others created for it though. I am pretty happy with it, the only gripe I have is the problem with DTS audio on some video formats and no RMVB support.

I can watch YouTube videos and videos on my home server.

              Wood Whisperer

I have really enjoyed my Roku for the last 6 months. Think it is one of the best deals out there. Especally enjoy the British TV mystery shows. Also enjoy woodworking, but was unable to find Wood Whisperer. Where do I look?
I am praying for patience but extremely upset that it takes so long.
