    Fess Parker

We've lost another television icon. Watched him all the time, and yes, had the coon skin cap, buckskin clothes and "Old Betsy".

'Davy Crockett' star Fess Parker dead at 85

I watched that program as a kid. Great show. I used to do a sing-a-long with the song.

I actually shook his hand at Lenox mall in Atl. back in the 60,s and he was a big man 6ft + as I recall, but then I was only 10 yrs old so everyone was tall to me. I did like the show, whatever happened to Mingo?

Fess Parker's "Daniel Boone" sidekick, Mingo, was played by Ed Ames, who is now 82, lives in L.A., and is active in Jewish causes...

His show was a little before my time but I do remember watching a few episodes on Sunday evenings when I was really young. He looked really imposing from what I recall. It is sad to have icons from our youth pass.It seems to mean more for some reason. I guess we still long for the innocence of youth as we age.
I think therefore I .....awwww where is that remote.

Mingo was in Daniel Boone. The Original Tin Man was Davey Crocket's sidekick, Georgie Russel. For you young un's Buddy Ebsen was the original Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz. Check out IMDB if you don't believe me.

Yeah, Buddy was alergic to the metallic make up. He was quite a dancer, hard to believe Jed Clampet could dance.

Fess Parker was great on that show! We never missed it.
