Two, yes two firsts!

Sunday, we FINALLY had a nice day so I loaded up the helos and headed for the field. I'm VERY happy to report that I managed my first forward flip and a nice looking roll. Even better, the T-Rex came home in one piece!

I had the BIG orange gasser with me and flew four nice flights, fast and smooth. My landing approaches are getting much nicer.

The only down side was with the scale helo. I had just replaced the engine and had it fired up for the first. I had the engine running VERY rich and had the helo in a hover about 6 feet up. I was like this for about 6-7 minutes when the the horizontal fin blew off and went through the rotor disk. I was able to land with out further damage, but the fin and the rotor blades were wrecked.

Oh well, it was still a very good day!

Congratulations! You are pushing me to get back into trying this sport. I would love to watch you fly them!

Unfortunately, I don't see time for any restful hobbies until I return home permanently in December. All I can do for now is dream! I don't even have any pen turning time and don't see any until maybe mid summer.

When you get home, come on down! I'll get some of my buddies together and we'll give you a real air show. Could probably get you on a buddy box too.

A buddy of mine did that on the first flight of his RC plane, 'cept those moves came after it hit the ground and shortly before it broke into more pieces.

Yes flying weather is here..
The club field is about 7 min from the office so I've been packing my little 31" Merlin and a couple Lipo's to work and back.. Fly at lunch. Charge at night.. FUn!

I may have to think about getting back into Heli's again..
The low $$ T-Rex clones are getting way to tempting.
Just got a JR 9303 so I need to re-program all my planes. ... Nice TX but a big change in programing from my Futaba.

What size T-rex are you flying?

My T-Rex is a 450. It started life as a SA, but so many parts have been replaced that is closer to a SE now. I'm looking REAL hard at a T-Rex 500 now or one of it's clones. Lipo's have started to really come down in price so I could afford a couple of 6 cell packs.

The Mongoose gasser is my favorite, SO much easier to fly because of it's size.

I know what you mean about reprograming. I had to learn all over again when I replaced the Futaba 9C-Super with the 12Z.

Is your 9303 on 2.4 ghz? That is the way to go with a T-Rex 450 since the receiver is so close to the motor/ESC. I get ZERO glitches since I made the switch.

My 9303 is still a 72 mhz unit but I plan to upgrade it to 2.4
I can't decide if it'll be JR/Spektrum or try the Corona system..
Corona is tempting since I can do 5 planes for the cost of the JR module and a single 9ch Rx.

I got it from another club member who stepped up to a JR 12x.
Great deal for me since my 7C can't do the dual elevator mix I need for the 27% cap 232 I have kicking around.

One of the guys at work just ordered a pair of Hobby King HK450 v2 full alloy T-Rex clones.. If they look ok like the reviews say I might have to talk him out of one..

I'll be sure to get switched to 2.4 if I get one of the 450's

One of guys at our club ordered a couple of those from Hobby King. They looked pretty good. He ordered a bunch enough stuff for two COMPLETE helicopters for about $250! He wasn't impressed with the servos, but said the rest performed okay. He even joked that for the cost, we could have helicopter combat one weekend a month like the "plankers" do!
