Shooter Jennings Fans - New Album Released Today - "Black Ribbons"

Copied from Wiki: [It has been described as "The Allman Brothers meets Pink Floyd" and Jennings himself has compared it to Nine Inch Nails.]

I'm more of an Electric Rodeo/Steady At The Wheel/Bad Majick/Southern Comfort fan than a Waylon fan.
This CD is more hard psychedelic rock than country.

    Here's the Wiki:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Ribbons

    Here's a review:
    http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2010/...concept-album/

It's great if you're an SJ or Prog Rock (ELP, Floyd, King Crimson, Tull, Rush) fan.
I don't think a country/western only fan would like it.

I'm back to the garage to crank it & burn old bills for BTUs.
Get it if you like Shooter's rock stuff.
Don't expect Lonesome, Ornry & Mean though.

More like NIN without the whining

BTW - Stephen King narrates it as a cynical DJ getting pushed off the air by the government.

    UPDATE - It's better than I expected. I think it's great.
John J. Robinson's review here: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Ribbons-...ews/B00354NB4A sums it up better than I can.

One word: "All of This Could Have Been Yours (reprise)" pick one.

That may be interesting. Will have to give it a listen.

Brings up the whole issue of musician offspring. Interestingly, a lot of outlaw country kids seem to gravitate toward heavy metal or country/punk: Hank Williams 3, Justin Townes Earle, Shooter.

Roseanne Cash is one of the few children of famous musicians who can really hold a candle to her parents, also Merle Watson, Arlo Guthrie and Bonnie Raitt. Jeff Buckley, Carlene Carter Cash, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Ben Taylor and Jakob Dylan have been reasonably successful.

More often having a famous musician parent is a curse. The Lennon boys (Sean and Julian) and Dhani Harrison seem to be talented but haven't had a need to develop their careers because they can coast on their father's fortune. Same with Lisa Marie Presley.

Never heard Justin (Ronnie's kid?) have to give a listen.

      I was a Black Sabbath/LedZep/DP/BadCo/Skynyrd kid in the 70s.
Thank God for VH in the 80s.
      Metallica/Sacred Riech/Scorpions in the late 80's.
      Soundgarden in the 90s
Even some Ice-T (saw at The Channel in Boston) and Public Enemy for good measure.

Beethoven to Satch growing up as a kid.

Cartoons made Classical available for me when I got over myself.

Never liked country one bit until I saw Hank Jr rocking on TV

Hank Jr never let Sr's fame slow him down.

You'd probably like my buddie's band if you're a big classic rock guy.
      They're called Blue Moon Harem

They should have their new album out soon.
There are a few songs in mp3 at their site (for free download!).

Edit - I like Hank III good enough but I can only take so much thrash.
I'm probably the only one I know that can stand it besides my stepson.
He likes thrash but can't stand country except Butt Ugly Slut by Roger Allen Wade
