My neighbors gave their new dog my name

And I don't mean cgallery. They named their dog Philip. Should I be concerned? My wife wants to know what I did to provoke them.

I suppose your reaction should depend on whether they beat the dog or pamper it...

I'm sure it will be interesting when you hear:

      Bad Philip, Bad Philip

      or

      Gooooood booooyyy Philip

Oh, I wouldn't worry. If you come when they call your name, then you should be worried.

It could be a compliment. 'Twere me I would assume this until proven otherwise.

It could be an honor. But if I were you (and I'm not), I would change my name if I started to respond to...Philip sit, Philip stay, Philip roll over.

We always name our animals for actual people. Normally celebrities. If the name happens to coincide with a person that we know, we like to give them "first right of complaint". If they don't b!tch about it, we go forward with it.

                We have:
Capone, a great dane named for the famous gangster
Lamont, a pug. This name came from Sanford and Son
Michael Joseph Jackson, a kitten that arrived about the time of his death
Vinnie Paul, a Nubian buck goat, named for the drummer of Pantera
Glen, Nubian buck goat, named for Glen Danzig
Buck, Nubian buck named for Buck Owens

I believe the above is the first time I've heard Michael Jackson, Pantera and Buck Owens mentioned in the same paragraph...

                    Hahaha

We try to spread the wealth. I'm a metal head and I love old country. My wife hates long trips anymore for the music that I play.

We had a Boston Terrier who we named Monica. I was the brainchild for that one. My kids named the cat this go-round.

Well, my wife was coming home from dropping the 13-YO somewhere and heard one of the neighbors screaming, "Philip, no. Philip, no."

She said the first thing that through her head was, "wtf is he doing now?" She and the kids say this is a normal reaction for people that know me well.

Then she saw the dog and couldn't wait to tell me.

I have imagined giving my dog the name of a neighbor and I think I'd avoid it, just to avoid any weird vibes. Of course, I assign nicknames to most of my neighbors so calling the dog something like "jogging bra" or "three fifths" wouldn't make much sense, I guess.

And I know, I know, maybe you're thinking this is retaliation for the nicknames. I'd understand if it was "Man Face" calling her dog Philip. But it is a couple with no-so-bad nicknames (Barney Rubble and Ooh La La).

I had a friend who lived in the same neighborhood as my Great-Uncle Sam. My freind got a new puppy whom he promptly dubbed Sam. My Uncle hated that dog with a passion. I think it mostly had to do with my Great-Aunt who needled him about it a good bit. Sam the dog got run over when he was around 5 years old. My friend who was about 12 at the time was devastated, however my Uncle walked around grinning like the Cheshire cat for a few days.
I haven't thought of this in a long time. It still makes me laugh when I think about it.

This whole conversation remeinds me of the old, stale joke about the little Indian boy who asked the chief how the babies of the tribe get their names.

                          Hahaha

                          It's classic!

Does the dog exhibit any similar behaviors?

Like: Intense attention to one's package, humping the neighbors leg, sniffing at crotches, watering the flowers & bushes, chasing after cars?

Not sure, haven't seen the dog drunk yet.
