    My first Gloat

I was helping my son with a remodel project when his friend/neighbor came up the stairs and ask the question, "Can you use this?". He was holding a 3" X 9" X 69" chunk of black walnut. Having no clue as to what I would use it for I said "Yes". Now all I need is an appropriate project. It has a slight bit of bow and wind but if I need to cut it to shorter lengths most of it will disappear. I'm not sure if it was kiln or air dried but he said it has been in his possession for over 20 years.

Your project should be to test the efficiency of our postal system. Send it to me and I will let you know when I get it.

Nice get! Put your thinking cap on, and build some stuff worthy of such a nice chunk...

If you were to remove the chips and dust correctly I bet you could find two rifle stocks in that block.

Great idea, David, but you aren't qualified to properly judge the results. I, on the other hand, have 15 years experience working with in the US Postal delivery system and could provide a much better in depth analysis of the test results.

I'm sure you could, but you also know how to work the system and might be tempted to skew the results. I on the other hand have no such knowledge so it would be a better test.
