    CL Bummer

    http://ventura.craigslist.org/gms/1596423448.html

I got there at 0759 hrs. She'd already sold the whole shootin' match to one buyer.

Buckets of old planes. Jointers, rabeters. smoothers, block planes, specialty routers, etc. Her deceased father was not a woodworker, just a tool collector.

The day wasn't a total loss. LOML came along for the ride, so I got to take her to a nursery for a niiice looooong look around at plants, then dig holes later on.

    Sigh.

    That's a bummer!

"...Saturday February 13 from 8:00 to Noon. No early birds!" She sold to an "...early bird." Win some, lose some. But like you noted, you did get to dig some holes!

I noticed that too. No early birds and yet..... She could have made more parting it out and selling off pieces, or even just splitting it into lots.

The chief cause of failure in this life is giving up what you want most for what you want at the moment.

It could be worse...you could be digging the holes I have been digging: a hole to get may car out, a hole to get to the mailbox, a hole to find my driveway...

Well, there's two ways to look at this... First, there will always be early birds. It's as sure as death and taxes. Second, as a seller, would you rather nickel and dime with people all day, or grab a package offer and be done with it? Not sayin' it's right, but such is life in CL world...

Well, if it were me, I would sell it in one fell swoop and be done with it, rather than having to drag it out all day. But I don't like garage sales.

The ad just said "no early birds". It didn't say no "early early birds".

It's hard to fault the seller who found a buyer at a price she could live with. The tools had been her father's and were seen to be more of a hassle than an asset.

OTOH, it was frustrating that she had advertised "no early birds", and, having respected that, I came up empty at sale I was really looking forward to.

                Life's full of challenges.

                  Was it all hand tools?
