What not to miss while in Tucson, AZ?

    Folks,

In the Catalina Foothills in Tucson, AZ for the next five days. Anybody familiar with the area have any recommendation of what not to miss when it comes to sights and restaurants. Would greatly appreciate any feedback.

    Kind regards,
    Chris

    Lived there for many years.
To me the best place to visit would be the Desert Sonoran Museum. A trip up Mt Lemmon is also a must. For dinner try a steak at Pinnacle Peak.

If you are an aircraft fan, the Pima Air Musem (right outside Davis Monthan AFB) is really good. Also, there are some old missions just south of town that are really nice

Definitely do the Pima Air Museum and take the guided tour of the Davis Monthan "boneyard".

I don't care for the valley, but after staying up in the hills on two occasions, I would not mind going back between late fall and early spring.

On my first visit to Tucson, the outside temperature as I stepped off an American Airlines 727 was 107! A little too warm for my taste.

Sabino Canyon, Mt. Lemmon, and the Desert Museum are good day trips although you will have to ride a tram into Sabino Canyon.

Pinnacle Peak Restaurant was famous for its steaks forty-five years ago; the steaks were excellent then and again about twenty years ago. Worth a look.

Have fun and don't forget the sun screen.

                Regards, Steve

Our son lives near Elfrada and we have visited the area several times.

We visited when these were blooming.

If you are interested in nature, we found this park also.

Also the Bisbee mine tour was well worth the time. We had as a guide an old miner that told some great stories of the days when he worked that mine.

Tombstone was somewhat of a disappointment. Their are only two original buildings. The courthouse which is free to tour and the Birdcage theater which you pay to go past the bar on into the back. The rest are places to eat, buy made in china gifts or see somewhat accurate battle reinactments.

                  Have fun!
