    Daughter #1-At It Again!

The other night, when I was finishing my cigar pen, daughter #1 came knocking on the shop door. She realized the lathe was turning and wanted in. I pulled the cigar pen off the lathe and set it up with a block of sasafrass. She proceeded to make a wonderful spindle with my roughing gouge. Won't be long before she starts on pens.

Couldn't that be considered contributing to the delinquency of a minor??

I can see it now, a second Lathe for Dad while Daughter #1 uses the old one to learn on. What better way to spend a little money, giving your Daughter a skill to last a life time.

That's just neat. My son is an artist, but he never took to wood.
...and my daughter is still deciding, but I doubt wood will be in her future.

My son has been itching to get on the lathe but I don't think he has the control he needs yet to do it safely...

              Cool!

I think she will *turn* into a fine young lady...

You could write a song about this, "Lathe lady lathe"...

She may have to go through a lot of scrapes in life, but don't be surprised if she starts looking at life in a skewed way.

              That's all, I'm done now...

This is the daughter who always loves to be in the shop with me. Last week she helped me assemble the new dresser we bought for her( I know, I know, I should have built one-needed a dresser right away though).

How old his she? When did she start?
She's in her teens. The other night was the first time on the lathe but she has worked with me in the shop before. She knows all my shop rules.

A friend of hers told her she should take shop( Back in gr 9) but she figued it was a waste of time-she would just work with her dad. I saw what the gr 9 shop was doing and her skills were way above the class already.

Now her younger sister is after me to build something with her . She just finished gr 9 shop.

I can't wait until I get set up back in the States again - this time next year I will be working on my shop - and I will see which of my grandkids want to do some woodworking!

Maybe even one of my girls and son in laws too!
