    Getting ready for some snow...

I've gotten by just fine for years without needing a snow shovel. Just 15 minutes to the northwest gets a decent amount of snow each year, but hardly any where I am. But this time might be a different story -- I'm stunned to see a "100% chance" of "heavy snow" in our forecast!

I have about 1/3 cord of dry firewood, and a full tank of LP for the grill (outdoor cooking only, of course). I'm as ready as I'll ever be I guess.

(I know, I know -- this is *nothing* compared to what many here have already seen this year, but judging by the excitement on my kids' faces it's really going to be something special for us -- even if it is only 6-8 inches... or 1-2 for that matter. )

Don't let us bitter Midwesteners get you down, its just that time of the year when we've been at/below freezing for two months and have another two to go.

Stay safe and avoid any unecessary trips, we might be trucking along in weather that would kill a moose, but that's only because a strong network of city/state snowplows and salt spreaders.

We're braced and ready as well. We hardly ever get snow here in Central Virginia (it always seems to skate around us ), but we got several inches this past December and they're predicting around 6 inches for the Metro Richmond area. Wife and daughter are excited, but sad that the storm didn't come during the week as schools close as the slightest hint of snow around here. I've got firewood stacked up on the carport, batteries, snow shovel at the ready, and made the obligatory trip to the grocery store for bread, etc.

Thankfully we've had a 2 or 3 week reprieve from snow here. We've been getting a few inches over the past few days, with a bit more forcasted, but it's pretty light for this time of year. 3 weeks ago we had severe lake effect snow that was fairly localized to 3 or 4 miles south of Lake Ontario. It snowed for 120 hours straight, and I'd guess we got well over 30". I shoveled the driveway 15 times that weekend. Not the worst I've seen, but it was weird because 10 miles south of us they had about 8", and 35 miles south they had 3". I called my Mom during that storm to see how she was managing...(me) "How are you making out with the snow Mom? Keeping up with clearing your sidewalk". (Mom) "Oh fine...I cleared it this morning...we got about 1/2" last night." ...(me) "Mom, we've had 1/2" in the 5 minutes we've been on the phone!" (not kidding ).

Hehe, my parents live in Pittsford. I laugh at people around here when they predict any amount of snow as everyone goes into a frenzy. Of course, they're not equipped to handle any volume of snow, so everything shuts down. You guys can get more snow in a few hours than we get all year!

That does sound like fun. We are suffering with 76 degrees right now, with a high of 80 degrees for tomorrow.

Get ready. We've got about 3 inches in Chattanooga and we usually get bypassed. It's headed your way. I understand Knoxville got over 6." It came down fast here - about 2" the first two hours. And it's still going although it has lightened up.

We havn't had much snow this year in accumulation, but it has been enough to make morning driving difficult. Coming home from work yesterday, I drove through squalls for 1/4 of the way home. Most of the time I was lucky if I could see 100 feet.

Snow is great for young children, especially if they don't get much exposure to it. It would be great if you get packing snow!

It just started about a half hour ago and already the grass is covered. And, as you might expect, the kids are now in overdrive -- asking to go outside even! It's going to be like getting to sleep on Christmas eve for them tonight!

Alex, it started here 6:30sh and we have close to 2" down. I am about 20 minutes west of you though. I am glad it started as snow. That is not nearly as bad for the power company as freezing rain would be.

We are finishing about a 10" snow storm here. This is the smae storm that has killed power to what I heard was 180,000 people in Oklahoma, They got ice first, which we luckily missed this time. I figure we were lucky. This is our second large storm this year. I 10" storm is a big one for us here. I hope everyone stays safe.

Flurries just started north of DC. This year I'm going to try to over seed my
lawn. They call it the lazy man's way to grow grass. HD had the 25# bag of
Rebel seed for $30 so I'm going to give it a try.

Our snow ended with about 2-3 inches but was followed during the night with freezing rain. Fortunately, not enough fell to bring down power lines or trees so far. Hope our luck holds - there are many huge trees close to the house.
