Another vote for the Panasonic. All the before mentioned reasons are valid. We have the 5 unit set and they have the clearest sound I've ever had with a phone. Battery life per talk time is great, I've never had one go dead or even give me a warning beep. We have left them off the charger for days and they still have a good charge. If you have a NmIh charger you can keep an extra set of batteries ready to go.

We have the five handset Uniden system purchased at Sears for $59.95 a year ago (Black Friday sale).

We've never had a problem and can have as many phones on the line as we want.

We have the @Home T-Mobile system on a 1 mpbs city-wide wi-fi. Only negative is that wish we'd had this service years ago!

(We have the modem, router and phone system on a UPS power supply. Eat dust, Ma Bell!)
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

We have VoIP and I got a Uniden set for Christmas. Currently 4 handsets, not sure what the max is but I even have one for the shop that is sealed and rated for underwater. Among other things it has a very useful intercom feature. We can also definitely have multiple handsets all talking at the same time. The main base also has a speakerphone, very useful for when I work from home.

bah.... Panasonic junk... 2nd set and definitely the last. The previous model was ok, however, it wouldn't disconnect calls! After you hung up with someone, they remained on the line. It worked wonders with telemarketers that can't hang up until you do....oh, the swearing and cussing we had recorded on our answering machine when one of those unlucky schmucks called... Current model kx-tga101s, consumer reports #1 rated cordless phone, loses signal to one remote unit - and trust me, my house is no mansion, maybe 60ft tops from base unit to remote unit including turns and corners. So, I can honestly say that Panasonic is no panacea either. Phone's used to be so well made, some phones are still in use today that were made in the 60's (those old bakelite shells) and somehow we cant make a cordless phone that will work for more than a year or work right during that year.....a plot to separate you from your money! Good luck

I'll put a vote in for a device that lets you install standard nimh batteries. I was having trouble with my phones not holding a charge and losing contact with the bases and after buying triple A Kodaks at 900Mah rating (Mah is directly related to how long a battery holds a charge, batteries that came with the phone were 600Mah) I have had no problems at all and for less than 20 dollars I have new bats in 3 phones and an extra set on hand if needed. Even if you can find a match to proprietary batteries at a decent cost, I doubt you'll see an upgrade in discharge rates (greater Mah).

Also, why can't these phones feature a recent calls capability like how a cell phone works, press the talk button once and 60 or so of the most recent Incoming and Outging calls are displayed, select desired number and press talk again to dial. I haven't found one that does this and can't remember if Aunt Ophelia is number 95 or 59 on the memory.

Our Uniden system keeps track of the last 25 calls and you can add them to the speed-dial page.

The intercom feature let's LOML find me anywhere in the house or shop (no matter where I hide!)

The 600 and 900 Mah batteries surprise me as being very low. I have often seen poor performance in solar lights due to the use of these low capacity batteries.

I purchase my batteries from here: http://www.thomasdistributing.com/sh...2_104_106.html

I have the 2900 Mah Nimh batteries and they work well in my camera. With capacity like these, I bet you could go a long time without any charging.

We recently got a Panasonic 6.0. Not easy to find one with belt clip, and a headphone jack. It's got a locator button to find the handset if its misplaced...used that feature a lot.

Check your website for triple A (AAA) you will see numbers more in line with what I have stated. Those at 1200Mah look tasteee though, wish I had seen them last week.

                        Definately talking about AA batteries.

The extremely cheap AAs are at that low end.

My Panasonic phones use AAs and if I need to in the future, I'll drop in some "state of the art - jacked up" AAs.

                          Call Screening?

When looking for a replacement for my GE 2 handset system I couldn't find one that would allow me to screen my calls without running downstairs to hear the message that was being left on the answerer. With my GE I was able to hear the message with the remote unit and I could answer the call if I chose to. Although I had caller ID sometimes the caller was blocked or I didn't recognize the caller's number. Am I the only one that thinks this is a deal breaker feature?

Now that's a feature I did not know existed, but now I can't live without!
(Okay, I'm channeling Calvin, but it's almost true). I guess it used the speakerphone on the handset?

Which model is your phone? Does it allow more than two handsets?

Wonder if the other newer phones discussed here have this feature.

The model of this GE brand 5.8 MGZ is 25952EE2-A and it was available with several handsets but I have had it for 2 or 3 years so the model number has probably changed. I have this phone set to go to the answering function after the 3rd ring which is when I push the flash button on the remote handset and can hear the message and make a decision to answer or not. I can also hear all stored messages by using the remote, I love this phone. Somehow I assumed all cordless phones had this feature and boy was I surprised when I started looking for a replacement.
