    It was a tough decision

This morning we took our 14 year old cat to the vet for the last time. She was having a few problems for the last 2 months and for the last week she had stopped eating. Based on the tests and the blood work, Dr. told us that she has a tumor and her liver is shutting down. We could see her getting weaker everyday and just did not want her to suffer.

Although this was my first pet, I always knew that a day like this will come. Even so it was a very tough decision to make as she was a great companion who acted more like a little puppy than a cat.

We will get another cat in a few months (when both my wife and I are ready) but no cat will replace Jazmin.

I am very sorry to hear that. Losing a pet is not fun.

Yours looks almost exactly like one of ours, and he too often acts more like a puppy than a cat.

I've only had cats as pets since meeting LOML almost 26 years ago. In that time, we've had to put down 3. The way I look at it, when they're clearly sick or suffering, they should have the benefit of a dignified end. Two of ours had mouth tumors and although they still got around, they could no longer really groom themselves or eat. The third lived more than 20 years. LOML was very attached to her, but when she could hardly stand any more, it was time.

I think you did your friend a great favor by allowing her to pass away peacefully.

I'm sorry to hear about this Turaj. It has to be one of the hardest things to do. Perhaps we will get a chance to talk more at the Toronto wood show.

I am so sorry, Turaj. What a darling little girl your Jazmin was. I am sure, just by looking at her picture, that she brought you boundless joy and laughter during the years you had together. Try to focus on that during these first difficult days; and know that in time, the pain you feel from her passing will fade and only the cherished memories will remain.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm so sorry to hear that, and I know exactly how you feel.

The same thing happened to my cat around 1999. Same problem, same age, same symptoms, same result. Fourteen years is a long time, and it's very depressing to see them change so much for the worse in such a short period of time.

Jazmin can look up Rum in kitty-heaven. Rum knows the ropes by now and can show her around

It's the toughest thing a pet owner has to do, but our precious friends rely on us to make the decision to ease their suffering when the time comes. Here's hoping you find room in your heart for another friend, because there are so many who need our help. Carry the sweet memories...

My deepest sorrow for you Turaj, I know the hurt these things bring to your heart. Our 16 yr old Brandy left us last summer. All things come to pass but we move on. We opened out hearts and home to two twin American Shorthairs sisters a couple of months ago, what a joy!

So sorry to hear that. We lost Slick Kitty a few months back. He was 18 at the time. He was a member of the family when Belinda and got married. It was a hard thing taking him on his last visit to the vet, but he was really starting to suffer.

Hi everyone this is Tina, Turaj's other half. Turaj shared with me your responses to his post about our dear baby. Thanks so much for all your kind thoughts and words. It really has helped us both. I am picturing our cat hanging out with Rum learning the ropes!
                          warm regards
