    Noetic Science

I got Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" for Christmas and am reading it. In it he mentions Noetic Science. I got curious and did some searching. It exists and there is even a national organization:

    http://www.noetic.org/about/what_is.cfm

    and

    http://www.noetic.org/publications/r...47_Harman.html

A quote from the second link:
"The goal of the second stage, just begun, is creation of a similar body of knowledge, empirically based and publicly validated, about the realm of subjective experience"

So they are trying to measure and quantify subjective experience. Methinks that is impossible to do, since by definition it is subjective and therefore really can't be measured.

Interestingly, the institute's founder is Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell.

        From Wikipedia.org:
During the three-day journey back to Earth aboard Apollo 14, Mitchell had an epiphany while looking down on the earth from space. "The presence of divinity became almost palpable, and I knew that life in the universe was not just an accident based on random processes ...
