OK, in the last couple of weeks, I've noticed that it often takes two clicks on the "Back" button in my browser (Firefox) to return to the previous page. The first click doesn't seem to do anything at all. Do you guys think I've got some kind of keylogger malware, or something else tracking my browser traffic? I have three auto-scans done weekly with McAfee, and they're all coming up clean. Firefox is up to date. I'm running XP Pro. Let me know if you know of a way to see what's really going on in there... Thanks!
Another one for the PC nerds...

Does it happen on all sites or just specific ones?
Is it limited to browsing, or do other things also require two clicks?
Does Alt-Left Arrow function the same way (e.g. also require two presses) in the browser? (Alt-left arrow is the shorcut for the back button)online at http://www.theFrankes.com

Update: It just figures that in the past hour of surfing, this problem only happened twice...
As far as your questions, there do not seem to be specific websites where this happens, the problem began before the last Firefox update I got, and the little drop-down arrow on the back button does not display any unexpected sites. I'll try to put some more focused info up here when it starts happening a whole lot again.Comment

With Firefox 3.5, I've been having similar problems. Virtually everything takes a double click, and at least one time in ten the process hangs up and I get an hourglass for a few minutes before I can proceed. Also, a lot of web pages have overwritten text, where one sentence is on top of another and both are impossible to read.
Maybe it's time to try Google Chrome??You don't need a parachute to skydive, you only need a parachute to skydive twice.Comment

Happened again this morning, surfing from the Yahoo front page to a headline article in Yahoo Sports via direct link. Looking at the drop-down "backtrack list", the listing for the page in the Sports section appears twice, as though I had gone there, and then again, without going anywhere in between...

I've had this problem off and on for a long time... afaik its not tied to just one browser, but I imagine it has something to do with how sites control cookies or caching or something. Some sites I just flat can't 'back' out of without using the drop down menu to go back to a *specific* url. And unfortunately, no, I don't have an example ready at hand right now. The next one I happen across I'll see if I can remember to bring back here. All right, breaks over. Back on your heads!

Yeah, I know the ones you are talking about... They "trap" your browser in a loop, and you have to get out a different way. What is happening here is different, though... There is only one extra step added, and I'm just curious if some sites are surreptitiously routing me through some 3rd party tracking entity, and making it look like I'm not being "watched"... It seems to happen to me more (now that I'm paying closer attention) as I move into, out of, and around in, Yahoo.I've had this problem off and on for a long time... afaik its not tied to just one browser, but I imagine it has something to do with how sites control cookies or caching or something. I don't know what's going onin this specific case, but as far as the UI goes.. Objects on the screen have a a "focus" and non-focus state, ad respond to a "Click" & double-click" event. It might just be that that site is using a different UI library that responds differently to the events..
for instance. clicking on an object now may only take the expected action if the object was previously in focus. Also, a doule-click from teh unfocused state may now just put the object in focus where as previously, the expected action would be taken on a double-click.
Another thing to check is that, there is a setting in the mouse section of the control panel that determines how close together 2 clicks have to be to be considered a double click event. Thet setting may have somehow been set way too smallComment

chrome/usatoday
I have the same problem with Google Chrome. but only when browsing usatoday.com.
Almost always takes two clicks to get back, quite often has taken 5+
Don't have the problem with other sites such as cnn.com, or usatoday with IE8Ken in Cincinnati
Pretend this line says something extremely wittyComment
