Panic Attack. A short film made for $300.

This short film is utterly fantastic. Great CGI.
Subject is alien invasion. Made by a Uruguayan
amateur for $300. It may have earned him
a $30 million contract to make a full length film.
Great return on his investment I'd say.

For that budget that is excellent! I wonder what he will do with 30 million, although that still doesn't seem like enough to make a movie.

That statement sounds ridiculous until you realize that Avatar was something like ten times that much. Fede Alvarez is a name to watch for, no doubt about that!

Impressive for $300. While I couldn't find anything that said he had landed $30M (just that the studios were courting him and speculation he could land $30M), I imagine the studios are thinking this guy could possibly hit one out of the park for peanuts. Not too much to lose.

I imagine he is going to do a lot of meetings and if he isn't a flake, some studio is going to roll the dice and write a check.

Ok, got the effects down, but can he deliver on an actual story? That is what seems to be missing in too many movies these days. And please not another "all doom, we're all gonna die" depressing downer like BSG, Outer Limits and all that crap, had enough of those!

I must have watched this video 5 times by now and what is most impressive is not the huge robots or the airplane battles it's the destruction of the buildings that seems to have the most realism. It looks like he paid attention to even the smallest details in his CGI.
