    Blender Motor For Spindle Sander?

My MIL broke her blender. The blades are supposed to be engaged by rubber teeth attached to the motor shaft and somehow the rubber teeth got shaved off so the motor spins but the blades don't. The blender is old enough that she is going to get a new one. I was thinking the base unit might be put to use in my shop. What say you?

I don't think the bearing are designed to take the lateral load, much like a drill press, but if you are careful using it I'm sure it would work...

I would think that unless you can gear it way down a blender motor would be too fast for a sander.

Way too fast. Maybe if you put a router variable speed adjustment on it......

Just throw the darn thing away.

            David,

The little driver with rubber teeth is supposed to break away when the knives are jammed. The replacements are available on Amazon.

I know, because I did the same thing a couple of months ago. Mine was $2.50.

Thanks Steve. I was poking around on the web and saw replacements just before I read your post. I think my MIL might use this as an excuse to get a new one though - old one is old and a bit underpowered. I also won't bother trying to use the motor in my shop. It was a neat idea though.

Buy the replacement teeth and use it for mixing paint. Be sure to make sure the lid is on TIGHT!

I actually thought about it being a paint mixer but ended up giving it to someone who can fix it and use it.
