    Drooling

Yesterday I went to look at what was supposed to be a bunch of old tools, with some odds and ends of scrap metal thrown in. This was a possible purchase to help a friend clean up what he is tired of looking at left over from his father's time. Lots of small, obsolete tools and a few parts items. I did not take a camera with me as this is often just a wild goose chase. He had about three ton of misc. shop type items that were really old and/or wall hanger type junque. Took me into the barn as a last stop and pointed out a few things that caught my attention, but nothing really outrageous. Another home built table saw, an old rotary convertor, etc. Then I looked at the building from the inside and started to drool. This was a 50 x 60 foot , clear span structure of all wood. Roof trusses were made with 10 x10 timbers with the bottom cord being 50 foot long clear douglas fir with very few nails or bolt holes. I could olny imagine what they would have looked like sanded with a clear finish. The rest of the building structure had been built with 40 foot 12 x 12 timbers, but werenot near as pretty as the 10 x 10's. Also had a few thousand feet of misc lumber that he has collected over the last 40 years.

Talk him into parting out the building and us NorWesters could come help for a timber. It sounds funny but I have seen some reclaimed lumber go for some outrages prices in the last ten years. One example was the company that was pulling the old railroad pilings out of the Great Salt Lake cutting about 1" off of all sides and selling these 12 to 20" clear beams for thousands.

      Hey Bruce,

And I thought you were going to talk about some interesting physical problem.

I might be too old to cut the mustard, but I still think about licking the jar.
