    Veterans/Rememberance Day

I post this video on forums that I belong to every year. My dad was a WWII vet and he stood and remembered every year. Dad's been gone ten years now and every year I have stood and remembered for him. I hope my children will do the same once I cannot do it any longer.

The story behing the video is as follows
On November 11, 1999 Terry Kelly was in a drug store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the store’s PA asking customers who would still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.

Terry was impressed with the store’s leadership role in adopting the Legion’s “two minutes of silence” initiative. He felt that the store’s contribution of educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable.

When eleven o’clock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the “two minutes of silence” to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect.

Terry’s anger towards the father for trying to engage the store’s clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was channeled into a beautiful piece of work called, “A Pittance of Time”.
    And here is the video

That is fantastic! Thank you so much! Anyone who isn't moved by that had better check and make sure their heart is still working.

Remember, this is a day for those of us that served and those that never came home,

No shopping! This is a solemn day, not a sales day.

                  God bless America.

                    Bruce has said it well.

My grandpa was a vet from the WWI and he would always take it upon himself to visit the graves of our kin who never came back in that war, WWII, and Korea war and place wreath on their tombstone. Back then a total of seven. Now, it's eight because my last uncle died within the past year after nearly sixty years in the VA hospital for shrapnel wounds to his head suffered in Germany in WWII. We honor those that served and those that did not come home to their families. I'm over 65 and can not remember us ever going shopping on this solemn day. Do not get me wrong, there are those who may have no choice but to shop this day, and those who know no better, and I do not fault them. That's why we lost many brave men and women, so that we had the freedom to do pretty much as we like. I do ask that everybody remember our vets, each and everyone of them. From ALL the wars and conflicts that they served in. And hopefully we remember those at Ft. Hood who were cut down before even leaving the country. We must honor our brave men and women of the military. Thank you that served our country. And thank you to those who paid the ultimate, their life. THANK YOU TO ALL!

It is interesting that school children, bank tellers, and government employees get the Veterans' day off. I, a vet, was never offered a day off and I have never heard of a vet employed in private industry being offered a day off. So I guess that shopping is what it is all about. In truth I would prefer that December 26 be a national holiday (sorry Canada).

                        RAF.

Great words and mind set, can we adopt you, or can you adopt me.

                        Charlie,

Ain't it great that we bleed and die and get squat by some sectors for our efforts, well I guess that's what's freedom is all about (shopping).

BTW, Applebys (Sp?) is not charging Vets and actives for a meal today. Great promotional value, cheap expense for the chain. They will now get my loyalty

                        Bruce.

I actually thought about gettin' a free dinner tonight. Heck, sitting around a dining room full of vets might be fun. Their ad says a "special menu", and I'm thinkin' it's SOS (CBOT) or MRE's.

Drove by Applebee's at lunch time. Parking lot full, line stretched around the building. Did not stop.

I'm a bit suspect of a "free meal" for veterans with a "special menu". I am guessing that Appleby's and others are banking on a veteran not showing up to eat alone. Maybe for lunch but.. in the evening I have doubts that my family would tell me to go alone on Veteran's Day. So.. they are not going to lose anything and probably will turn a good profit with lines around the building and those with veteran paying full price for most things on the menu that are have high profit margins.

So.. personally I say thanks to those offering but... NO THANKS as I question the real motive. Just my view from the other side of the coin which may not be as rosy as show side.
