We had a few in Scout Pond aboard MCAS Beaufort, SC. They generally stayed clear of the people fishing. Signs warned against feeding or irritating them. One young Lt found about the land speed and power after he ignored the signs one afternoon and was feeding 'Pops'. He ran out of food before 'Pops' ran out of appetite. The Lt made it to his car but before he could get it started 'Pops' demonstrated the power of his tail on the shiney new Z's driver side and front end.

        wow
        that is a monster!
Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that! -Rocky Balboa-

Sure have seen some big ones around here... Interesting to shine a light on the rivers at night, and see all the pairs of red eyes shining back at you. The distance between the eyes is a measure of how big they are. Spooky...

A deer is no problem for even an average-sized gator... They take 'em under and drown them, and then stuff 'em under a submerged log and stand guard on the carcass until it softens up enough (ugh!) to be torn to pieces and eaten.
