    Jack Benny

For those of you who might not know, Jack was supposedly, shall we say, well.....ultra frugal. Here's a sample of one of his shows, with the Mills Brothers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDSwNVOhhsY

Thanks, Ed, for posting that. It prompted me to go and peruse the great number of Mills Brothers videos available on YouTube. It's obvious why they had an active career spanning 50 years. Class shows! The last time I saw them on TV was in 1981 on a PBS program. Can't remember what it was, but it may have been, "Evening at (Boston) Pops". I think Harry died, soon after that, and their act, sadly, ended.

My favorite jack Benny bit was when he was being held up at gunpoint. The robber says 'your money or your life' and Benny just stands there. When the robber shoots him an incredulous look, Benny says "I'm thinking, I'm thinking!'

I did the same thing. If you didn't find "Cab Driver", the one they had on there was from 1981. Slightly different from around 1960. I still enjoy listening to them.

I got in to Jack Benny back in the late 50s or early 60s when he became a shill for State Farm Insurance, the company my father worked for. We had lots of tapes of SF commercials done by JB, and we also always watched his shows whenever possible; he had great comic timing.

He died. Something to do with a heart problem brought on by old age.
