That's so true! It beats me why most people who consider themselves "players," or to be competitive in any way, don't consider driving as a skill that needs constant honing and re-assessment. How many times have you heard (or said yourself) "I got there, but I don't remember much of the journey, I must have been on auto-pilot."? That's what I call an accident, idly searching for a location.

I'm not quite sure when it started, probably when I bought my first new car back in '65. I started taking long trips, I was only 21 then and with my first new car, I could drive without a lot of worry about the vehicle breaking down. Living in Binghamton, NY area at the time, I'd think nothing of taking off to Vermont, Washington, N. Carolina, or wherever. I just loved driving! (Put 93K on that car in less than three years.)

But, one constantly had to be searching for a radio station and frankly, it just wasn't worth it. Driving, I could just listen to the engine, tires, the road and it just upped the senses and to me it made the "driving" just that much more pleasurable.

So, I learned to "drive"... no radio, no beverage, no food, nothing but the road, the traffic, the car, and maybe some light conversation with my wife or passenger. I have a GPS, a phone, and even radio communications, but they're all off untill I need them.

But, it's amazing what you see other driver's doing... even reading!
