    Weekend Project

I came home from work yesterday to find my mailbox on the ground, the post shattered! My guess is that a mailman wasn't paying attention, hit it, and then drove off.

Now I get to go buy a cedar 4x4, mill it down, and cut it to accept the arms/braces off the old post. Then I have to cut the braces off the old post to attach them to the new post, sand them down, glue it up, and refinish it. When I set it I am going to move it a couple of feet further from the driveway.

In my defense, it was dark, rain pouring down, and I was headed to work.....

I would make that mailman pay for it. You probably have wanted to change it for a long time.

When the City dug up our street to install the sewer lines, I had to replace the post and box twice. I think one of those times it was kids with a baseball bat.

My fix would be to go buy a new mailbox post and move the mailbox to it. Lowes and HD sell them already made. That way I would have more time to do whatever it was I was planning to do this weekend.

I knew right away it wasn't the mailman. It had to be a kid, for sure.

I got the post rigged so the box can be used by driving 3 sections of rebar around it to hold it against the fence. Sunshine and 70 for today turned out to be drizzling rain and mid 50's so no woodworking today. Instead, I am draining and cleaning the HW heater and replacing the elements. The HW supply has been getting steadily worse.

                      Don,

You are now an official member of my "I ran over the mailbox club!" Only in my case the mailbox did more damage to the Sonoma's fender than the pickup did to the mailbox!
                      Good luck with the WH,
