    Bright ideas wanted!

I recently replaced an older GD opener with a new quiet one and now have a garage door opener motor, 1/4 hp, with step down pulley and chain drive. The rail was not saved but it still has it's remote control. It's in a box waiting to be useful again, but at the moment I can't think of anything to use it for. Anyone have any great, or not so great, ideas for this?

How about some sort of contraption that opens and closes garage doors automatically?

That would have to be one big saw to keep up with the opener, but mounted to a hand saw it may have possibilities.

I was kind of thinking of a hoist to lift something out of the way, perhaps the kayaks in the storage unit.

Funny you should mention that, SWPIMS (she who parks in my shop) suggested that, or a device to drag my dead arse out of bed in the morning.

So far the neighbors have suggested an automatic flag pole, and if I were to get a really long chain, a dog walker - retriever for use when it rains.

          Bill,

            Bill,

Years ago I had a 10' Hendrick panel saw. The blade was motorized, and was hand cranked over the panel. You might be able to hook up a hand circular saw on some rails and have it motor its way across panels.

I hear you C-man, but I still think it would be one heck of a big skil saw to cut as fast as the opener moves and I don't happen to have one of those Hendrick saws handy.

I was thinking of a saw like this to motorize.

I think it should be something useful like a device to automatically bring cold beer to the shop.

Say Charlie, think Harbor Freight might have a good price one of those squirrel cages?

Hi other Bill, I tried to train the dog to do that, but being a small dog he only would fetch light beer. On the line of useful, SWPIMS thinks it's a good idea to put everything on casters and then when she comes home she could just push a button and all the tethered tools and carts would be drawn back into their respected garages and there would be room for her to park.

Now that's a good idea, if I had a house with an attic. Built on a slab with trusses there is little room for storage. I might be able to make a unit that fits between the trusses and have the opener lift it up and lower when needed. Just have to figure out what to store on it.

Bill, over here on the Sunny Oregon Coast where. at 85 deg we were the warmest spot in Oregon yesterday and may be again today. Well back to the beach
