    Help with IE7

I had to do a system recovery which defaulted my computer back to IE6. I have tried to upgrade to IE7 3 times. Each time it loads, but will not let me go on line. No web page will open, including the MS support site.

The first and last time I was able to uninstall through the add/remove programs on the control panel. The second attempt did not give me an uninstall option and I had to do another system recovery to get it out.

Any ideas? Not really sure I want to load IE8 with the problems people are having with it, or if it would do the same thing as 7 is doing.

I avoided IE7 because of all the problems and exposures it had. After IE8 had been out for quite a while and I saw it was getting better reviews than IE7 ever did, I upgraded IE6 to IE8. It has been pretty stable and seems to be a lot better than IE7 ever was. That said, I only have IE on the system because my wife hits a lot of UK sites that don't support Firefox. IMO, FireFox v3.5.3 is much better than IE of any flavor. On my system, it is also much faster.

If I were having problems installing IE7, I'd install FireFox, uninstall IE7 altogether, then download IE8 via FireFox, and install IE that way.

I've gone out to look for myself. If I return before I get back, have me wait for me.

Assuming that your Internet connection is otherwise functional and that it IS a problem with the browser, I'd do exactly what Jim suggests. You could take the interim step of loading Firefox, then adding "IEView" to it (it's an "add-on" you'll find readily by searching Mozilla's site), then you can view pages in IE8 (which I find stable) at a right-click.

          Thanks for the replies.

I know that Mozilla Firefox, AOL, Gooogle Chrome and several other programs are available, but I am not the most computer savvy person and would rather stick with IE, since I am familiar with it.

Example of the problem: When I first got on about 30 minutes ago everything was running at a snail's pace as I checked my mail and when I logged on here. Now it seems to be running fine.

I have a bit of bill work to do this morning and then I will load IE8.

If that doesn't solve the problem, I will back up the few docs I have in this computer that I need to keep (pictures are already on a memory stick) and do a destructive system recovery to take it completely to day one. Last options beyond that are to call in a repair tech or buy a new computer.
