I do not have an iPhone. I do not have iTunes or Safari installed, nor have I ever. I do have QuickTime. Apparently Apple is using QuickTime as the gateway software to load my computer with iCrap. The screen shot is of the default settings that Apple wants me to "update" every couple of days. I HAD a neutral opinion of Apple, but I think it just dropped if this is how they are moving forward. I know I can ignore the updates from the file system, but loading in software that is not already installed is sneaky and misleading, especially for those who just click 'OK' without reading what is being updated.
Apple is rotten too

Apple seems to use anything they have as a software gateway to get more software onto your computer. I think it is sneaky business, especially for those like you mentioned that just click Ok.Dave

I'm running iTunes, and I get offers to download Safari and other things. It doesn't bother me. But it's just not a good idea to click "OK" without knowing what it's all about.
EdDo you know about kickback? Ray has a good writeup here... https://www.sawdustzone.org/articles...mare-explained

Clicking "OK" without knowing what you're responding to is a good way to get infected with software you don't want.
I think Alan alluded to this, but more specifically for those suffering from this problem, you can go to the Tools menu in the Apple Software Update tool and choose "Ignore Selected Updates" ... this will stop the nagging until Apple has a new version to offer you.Don't just say no to kickback.Comment

The point is, it shouldn't be checked off so that you have to give a negative response to not get it.
This is the same as getting a magazine you didn't order and having them tell you that if you don't cancel it, they will bill you. Since when is the onus on me to undo something I didn't sign on for in the first place?
What's next, the supermarket putting things in your cart so you have to take them out? Where does this nonsense end?
This really is a sleazy business practice, and because 'everybody is doing it', it's become accepted, which is a crock of you know what! You don't need a parachute to skydive, you only need a parachute to skydive twice.Comment

It is almost exactly like MS's Auto Update - you get a choice with the Apple's and MS's. But the way the choice is made is usually on the side of the MFG. That is not right. I am primarily a Mac user, but this type of Auto Do is not right. IMO, the first time a situation like this arises, the end user should be given the "Preference" to set how updates will be managed.
With the above said - there is a check box under "preferences" that allows you to do it totally manually, or do it on a regular occasion.
Last year, I spent a couple of hours on a co-worker's home computer (Vista) trying to figure out why his MS Office was not working. Finally I figured out that one of the pop-up "updates" offered to update (actually upgrade) his older installed office with the most recent version of MS Office, which was a 60 day free trial. The co-worker thought it was an update and didn't know the difference, so he clicked OK. And 60 days later, the free trial ran out!
Those dang Update/Upgrade offers are a pain, both manually and auto.
Many QT users jumped on Apple about this several months ago, giving them flack over the point you are making. Make it known to them your dislike!Last edited by leehljp; 09-23-2009, 07:34 PM.Hank Lee

Also, if you did allow it to install iTunes at some point you probably want to remove it or upgrade it now. There is an exploit in iTunes which can allow unathorized code execution on both PC and Mac that was just fixed recently.Comment

Why fight it? Just give in and let the Apple juice flow into your body...Jeff
