    A Really Big Shop

Now here is a shop space that I think none of us could out grow.

    Cool Ares 3D pic

The next best thing to being there – make sure you scroll all the way UP to see the top of the stack! Enjoy!

Works for me, have to have Java enabled. It's large and slow to load and will go to full screen.

I get an aerial view (Google maps) of what looks like an apartment complex. Now what?

          Loaded fine for me.

I've been in that building several times. The first time I saw it was as a teenager (back in the Saturn V days), and as I stood there and looked up, I remember getting the feeling that I was going to fall over backwards. The scale of the thing is actually disruptive to the senses.

            C-Man this is the link

            http://nasatech.net/Arex1-XStack090823/

Not a Google in site and far bigger than most apartment complexes. It might be easier for you to just drive over and see it in person. We all will be expecting first person pictures....

Sorry about you not being able to see it. It's really big and a very cool demo. It may have to do with your browser, I am using Firefox. Or perhaps the wife has turned on parental controls......... Anyway the building is large enough that an assembled Aries rocket looks small sitting against the wall, and doesn't even reach the roof.

I recall reading somewhere that the VAB has to have a special air conditioning system, so that it doesn't rain inside the building.

I'm gonna have to go to FL sometime and see it.

The rain reference is a bit of an embellishment for the tourists, an outgrowth of the very true statement that clouds can and have formed in there from time to time. I have not seen the phenomenon in person, but there is a photo floating around somewhere that clearly shows the upper reaches of a rocket completely obscured by clouds inside the building. Note also that the photo show linked in this thread depicts just one of the bays in the VAB. There are four. It is a building that is of such immense proportion that it can clearly be seen from almost 30 miles away.

Sure wouldn't want to misplace my tape in a shop that size.

I don't know about the VAB but I was in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum at Christmas time one year. Clouds were forming against the big windows in the lobby and it would rain near the window. The guards said it only did that when it was really cold out.

At the VAB, the "rain" is runoff of condensation from the metal superstructure. Probably seems like rain, but isn't formed entirely in the clouds, like the genuine article.
