    District 9?

Anyone seen this yet? I saw 50 minutes before I left. I was bored out of my tree and could not stomach the hand held camera jitter. Not to mention I hate message pictures; if I wanted to be told what to think I would have gone to school.

Guess I'm just getting old, my favourite comics in the other thread would be Benny Hill and Dave Allen. Of course the 3 Stooges, Laurel & Hardy and Buster Keaton were great.

I haven't seen it, but the reviews I have heard are pretty much all about the effects, and not the story. But from the previews, I would have guessed that.
Awww forget trying to fix it!!!! Lets just drink beer

I don't like message pictures so probably won't see it. I go to see movies to be entertained. What was the message?

My sister sat through the whole thing and hated it. She said it was very graphic and bizarre. I will not be going to see it. It is not my type of movie at all.

I'm not going to a theatre to see it, but the review at

          http://www.userfriendly.org/

was enough to put it on my watch for it to make TV list.

I saw it. I think I kind of liked it overall but didn't love it. It was clearly a series starter (the story didn't end by the end of the film) which I generally dislike. I think the premise could have been a GREAT book, but it was an OK movie...

On the special effects side it had the best robotech/mechwarrior type sequence I've seen. Not nearly the over-the-top craziness of Transformers. There was a neat PPC-like effect and while It was much smaller scale (one unit) than the Transformers/other stuff, it seemingly had better detail, and better/more realistic motion/physics. What I really wanted when it was over was for a MechCommander 3, or MechWarrior 5 game to be released in the near future.

MechWarrior was the only game I ever really played for any length of time. I'd love to see another one too but wouldn't have time to play it if it came out.

OK, I guess I'll be the only one to say that I saw it and I really liked it. Peter Jackson is now forgiven for King Kong.

I think the movie does have a lot of special effects, but it's hard not to given the story line. But, it's a very story-driven movie.

I do think there is a message there, but it doesn't beat you over the head. You could make a few substitutions with the characters and find that it mirrors things that have happened/ are happening in the world today (sadly enough).

But messages aside, it's a great story with an excellent character arc, and very good acting. The "jittery" camera is interesting, as the movie vaciliates between real-time action and a documentary-like restroscpective.

Finally, regarding the ending, I think it leaves it open-ended. But based on what I've read, it's not because this was initially thought of as a series. Aren't many events open ended? I think it allows the viewer to think more about what may happen and the consquences of our actions (both the imaginary actions in the movie, and the real ones in today's world).

                So... yeah. I liked it.
