We were planning to BBQ, but the weather has been pretty wet. As the weather reports say...'moisture'. I just call it rain. Anyway, we might take a dinner trip to the Outback.

Spent most of this AM and some of PM helping a friend saw cherry on his band mill. Its a small one, no fancy lifters/log rollers but sure is nice to cut lumber from logs. Especially when as the boards are cut you can go "kaching-kaching" and see the dollars flying by. Most of the stuff we cut was 5/4, but did cut some 2.5x2.5 for framing cab's etc. Actually there was 3 of us in on the deal. Bought logs last fall and let them dry some, even so they were still fairly wet, about 18-20 percent moisture. By next summer should have some real nice stuff to build with. We did saw one white birch log that was 23" by 8', it had been drying in the log for over a year, so we got some great lumber. Hate to think how much it would cost to buy retail. So, anyway it was a fun and very profitable day!

Nothin' smells better than fresh sawdust!
Kids and I played some today. I took the pool down and spent the afternoon working on my shop. I started insulating the ceiling. I hope to finish that by tomorrow night so I can hang the sheathing on the ceiling and be painting by next week.

The chief cause of failure in this life is giving up what you want most for what you want at the moment.
We decided to go to the L.A. County Fair on Labor Day as the admission fee was only $1 (normal price $17) and although I expected huge crowds I really don't think it was any more crowded than a normal weekend. I have not missed going to this fair since I was 16 yrs. old and it is still a fun place to go. 22oz. fountain drinks were only $1 from 1PM to 4PM (normally $3) so I consumed many diet cokes. This is reputed to be the largest county fair in the country and larger than most state fairs.
I don't want any more 3 day weekends. Not if they're going to be like this last one. I spent the time doing electrical and plumbing repairs.
Tracked down where half a circuit to two bedrooms was out. At least I didn't have to open the wall.
The plumbing isn't totally fixed yet, but I got it down to a couple slow drips. The service pipe going to the house is leaking. I noticed some standing water earlier in the week, but it was just after it rained. I hope I don't have to go under the slab. Shouldn't be too hard, I've got a pretty big stinking muddy hole started. I ended up trying out some fiberglass pipe tape, mixed results so far. There's another leak farther down the pipe, it wasn't just the ground seeping.
The only shop time I got was replacing the lower 18" of T1-11 siding on my shed. My dogs decided it was really easy to remove all the existing partially rotten siding down one side. I've been intending to get around to it for several months, but they decided to do the demo work early.
