I believe it was a joint venture between Ford and Yamaha with Yamaha doing all the heavy lifting on the engine.

Some years back a friend of mine bought a SHO. It was powered by a Suzuki engine. The clutch took about 50 lb force to get it down and he had a bad hip. He didn't keep it very long.
(He got a replacement hip joint since).

I saw the new Taurus SHO on the road last week. They are sharp and pretty quick.

Are the available yet? I really don't know. I saw it on I-94 near Ann Arbor, where you see a lot of new models being road tested--I assume coming to/from Detroit.

From what I have read, the Taurus SHO is more show than go- this year.

Now about the GNX, Chevrolet wasn't happy that the GNX was faster than the 'Vette.

The GNX does 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and second only to the Porsche 911 Turbo cabriolet in production vehicles of 1987. from Barrett Jackson

Back the truck up 21 years...the 427 Cobra Super Snake did 0 - 60 in a tad over 3.3 seconds.
