    It's Always Something

Last night I didn't get a lot of work done in the shop - one of my daughters was sick and not sleeping well so I decided not to go outside. Tonight the plan was to put the insulation in the gable ends and then put the ply over that except my stapler is broken. It is not feeding staples and I don't have the right ones for Grandpa's old one. Anybody know how to fix a stapler, or just get a new one? It worked fine the last time I used it. There is nothing jammed in it. It just doesn't appear to want to feed the staples. I can't remember if there is supposed to be a spring behind the staples pushing them down or not.

    Can't help on the stapler.

Just be glad it's just one thing. Around here; if it's not one thing, it's two. (and that's just my car)

Every stapler I've seen has a spring of some kind. Most just a simple coiled wire type but some had a strap & pulled the staples instead of pushing them. Jack

Yeah. Grandpa's old one pulls the staples. Mine doesn't seem to have either a push or pull spring. . Mystifying since I know it worked when I put up the vapor barrier in the bathroom in February. Its been in a drawer since then.

I have a few different brands of staplers, and there is spring loading in the magazine to force the staples forward, in order for the drive pin to strike them in succession. It's a pretty simple system.

I have one with a coiled band that pulls the thingy that's behind the staples. Sometimes it's corroded or jammed and needs a shot of WD40. The other one has a spring pushing the thing and now often needs to be stretched out, especially if I left the stapler full. Hmmm perhaps it's time for a new one for me.

Without a spring of some type for pressure/tension on the column of staples in the magazine it's never going to work.

                Bill,
Bill's got the answer, it's happend to me. It seems the piece that pushes the staples is stuck somehow. Examine the load bay carefully.

I jgot a new staple gun. B&D Powershot that apparently will also shoot brads. The piece that pushes the staples in the old one isn't there anymore, or never was and it uses a different mechanism that is not working.

I've have one of the electric powershots, I don't know if they have different models. Sometime I wish I would have bought a decent manual stapler though.

It's OK, be sure to really hold the stapler down when trying to drive into hard materials.

That is a good stapler. My daughter has one. I have a Craftsman in the similar style and it is so hard to push, that I can't use it very long.
