    Paint Pens

    I need to mark my galvanized steel hurricane panels. Magic markers or Sharpies may fade off. I was in HD and Lowes today looking for paint pens, not stain pens, with no luck. I was almost positive I've bought them there before. Sherwin-Williams didn't have them listed online as far as I could find. Any suggestions?

      Craft store. They'd have the ones that don't fade when clothes go in the wash so I assume they will stand up to weather. Just curious, what is wrong with spray paint?

          Walmart used to carry them with the toy model cars. That hobby has died off some, so I don't know if they still have them or not.

              Any office supply store should carry them. Try to buy the Sanford brand.

                  We use Markal at work. They are the best I have seen by far, and I have been using them 20 years. They hold and do not fade in some pretty severe industrial environments.
                  I know that Grainger and Fastenal sell them. I would use them if you can get your hands on them.

                      Try a metal work supplier (maybe an Enco or McMaster catalog if desperate). I also saw them in a welding suppy store.

                          you have to clean the galvanized with a solvent first, or nothing will stick to it for long. I know turpentine works, google alternatives.
                          Once you do this, a 'magic marker' should stay on there forever, especially if you put it in a place where it doesn't get much weather or friction. I'm thinking it will last longer than paint.

                              Have you considered etching it with a dremel or the like?

                                  That does sound permanent. I made up an easy to follow window layout with what goes where. I did this in case I go to the cabinet shop in the sky and my wife has to figure out the system. These panels have many stampings already on them to signify code compliance. If I add more of that stuff, it may just confuse her.

                                  They already have been marked (by the dealer) a few times as for length with black magic marker. After installing and removing them I set my layout codes in black magic marker (it's all I had). I'm thinking maybe something in red, to differentiate it from all the other markings.
