    Paralysis By Indecision

I hate when this happens. It usually doesn't happen to me. For two nights I've not made much progress on the shop rewiring because I get out there and start, then start rethinking the layout of the outlets. Then I get frustrated and come inside. I've been too worried about trying to get it 'right' and trying to anticipate all contingencies, which is impossible to do.

Just put outlets every 32 inches all the way around; several circuits! Simple enough.

In my little 9 X 12, I have 4 double outlets per wall, side and back, and two in the ceiling. Three circuits. Love it!

I am glad that I am not the only one who does that. I tried to overthink it to make it perfect, and that of course doesn't happen. I did that on a flip top cart I want to make. Finally, I just went in and started doing the basics that I knew I wanted, and the rest is coming together. It won't be perfect, but it will work when I am done.

My advice would be start doing the ones that you have decided on. The rest will come easier after that.

That's just the Yuengling calling you back inside.
Seriously try to give yourself several clusters,I like the two outlet boxes, of outlets at regular intervals and a couple of 220 outlets were you think you may want to put bigger tools.
I like to put a couple higher on the wall in areas where I may need lighting under shelving and cabinets if you have planned that far. I also like several near doors so I can hook up drop cords for fans and outside work.
I think therefore I .....awwww where is that remote.

Yeah. I realized that part of my problem has been trying to reuse stuff and limiting circuits thereby constraining myself. Last night I concluded I would abandon most of the existing boxes/wiring since on one whole side it is too low in case cabinets ever go there.

I forgot to mention that I put all of mine in that little shed at about 42 inches up from the floor and below narrow shelves (which start at about 45 to 48 inches up) and LOVE it! No outlets hiding! The Ceiling outlet does not get used in the small shed as much as I thought but it does get used. When I had my tools in my garage in Osaka, I was surprised at the number of times I went to the ceiling outlet. (Hint - use a hanger to hold the weight of the cord.)

I didn't mention that I have one outlet on the outside near the door that is on a separate circuit.

Those well laid plans usually don't work the way we expect. I was forced to occupy my garage shop before I finished it so wound up putting a dozen outlets in the overhead.
