    You Guys Were Right

Well, this morning our microwave isn't micro-ing, or wave-ing. We bought all our appliances when we bought this house 10 years ago. Last month our clothes washer started making some bad noises. I dread to think what will be next. Maybe 10 years is the magic number.

Well you could buy a new house that has new appliances.

Cheap appliances don't last. We are moving the washer and dryer we bought 22 years ago into the new house and putting used beaters in the one we'll sell.

On the other hand, apparently a fitting on the (2 year old) dishwasher we're putting in the new place got tweaked while it was being removed from the old structure. so now we're facing a repair bill. Just cannot have potentially leaking fittings over hardwood floors.

Even really expensive ones aren't guaranteed a long life either. We've got some high end condos where all Viking appliances were installed. There has been several failures in the 14 units; a couple fridges, a dishwasher, several icemakers, one wine cooler, and a gas range. A few of the failures were from being installed incorrectly. Those were the really expensive failures, like an ice maker connection taking out half of the wood flooring on the second floor.
