Ever have one of those nights?

I should preface this by saying that LOML was out of town all last week. And I had recently acquired a handheld, personal breathalyzer. The inevitable followed. A night out drinking with the boys. One of those nights that you know is going to be so much fun you take a cab TO the bar. The details of that are of the sort that no one here wants to hear about though.

What might interest the forum members is what was waiting for me on the steps when I got home from work tonight. A HUGE box. And a heavy one at that! Marked, "Hitachi Factory Direct" or something like that. It is already in the trash. (the cardboard that is, not contents). Apparently after an evening out with the boys I decided it would be prudent to buy a 12" Hitachi miter saw. As if the bar tab was not enough.......

C'est la vie. I always wanted one and I got a great deal! (so the invoice says....) None the less, friends don't let friends drink and shop online!

    That's a gloat I guess??

Reminds me of a story - some years back I worked for a company that sold stock data. Every trading day customers would dial in (this was before the interweb) and download their data. It cost maybe a penny per stock per night. Something like that. We had a procedure where you needed to go in and clean out some temporary files, else the program could have problems. Anyway one day I get a call from a guy who was out with the guys then at 4ish in the AM decided it would be a go ahead and clean up these file, except he deleted his actual data. He wanted to know about a refund of several thousand dollars worth of data. The last thing he said to me was "I don't know why I was doing that, it was not like I really should have been making financial decisions anyway".

Not a gloat really. I just thought it was amusing. The sad thing is, this is not the first time this has happened. And to clarify, it is not like I drank to the point of blacking out and then ordered tools. More like my memory is jogged as I open the box.

In my early twenties I drank every night and to excess on weekends. Constantly. Then it started hurting the next day....... I rarely if ever go out to the bars any more. I am good for once or twice a year going out with two of my ex-roommates along with whomever wants to come along for the ride and when we get together hades is raised.

Your wife is a lucky woman if the biggest trouble you can find when you're blitzed out of your mind is, a miter saw.

What a great angle! The next time I want to buy some big-ticket toy, I'll just order it, and when it comes in, I'll blame it on a night out drinking! It's like pleading insanity, only better!

I wasn't sure where that story was going.

I wondered what was in the box labelled Hitachi--then I came across this:

Jeff, if I had come home with that box while she was out of town, I would have to go out of town! For good probably. And no custody of the dogs......

UC, I knew she was a keeper when me and the boys were going out one night and right before I left she asked where my checkbook was and to write down my father's number......in case I needed bail money. Because, as she put it, "You three are downright mischievous together."

The last time I went on a "boys night out", we went to a live show of exotic female dancers displaying epidermal exposure. I wound up purchasing a S&W stainless .357 magnum from one of the guys. He was running short of dollar bills.
