    SF Bay Area Attractions?

I'm working in Sunnyvale, Calif. for the summer and need something to do. I know there is a Woodcraft nearby, what about other tool/woodworking stores that need my paycheck?
What about no-so-touristy things to do in the area? architecture to admire? Parks to visit? Pubs with good beer?

CB Tool in San Jose has an excellent supply of machine tools and dust collection parts. IINM, they are also a Rockler affiliate, carrying hardware bits and pieces.

Hiking and biking in the Santa Cruz Mountains is excellent. There's some good wine tasting up there, too.

Biking 17-mile drive in Monterey is also very nice.

Gordon Biersch in Palo Alto. Not exactly a micro-brewerey these days, but a nice place to hang out.

I enjoy going to Fisherman's Wharf for good food and people watching. Ghiradelli Square (also at the wharf) is a great place for a morning bagel and coffee. Enjoy the summer and dress warm.

Go north over the Golden Gate and visit Muir Woods. Just don't take a saw with you, they frown on that.

You should check out Southern Lumber in San Jose for hand tools and hardwoods...good selection.

            http://www.southernlumber.com/

However, for a really amazing selection of wood check out Global Wood Source.

            http://www.globalwoodsource.com/index.php

If you go up to the Woodcraft store in San Carlos, you might want to check out Tooland....it is just down the street.

            http://www.tooland.com/

If you are looking for some ideas for projects, check out the Wooden Duck in Berkeley...bit of a drive but interesting.

Close by is a store I have never made it to but have always wanted to.

If you want one of the best carne asada burritos around, check out Chavez Market. The line starts forming at 11:30 for lunch so be advised. For something different, try their bira (goat).

When you get through this list, PM me and I'll give you some more.

              Alcatraz, ditto on biking.

The Tied House in Sunnyvale also has some good beer. If you're into wildlife, the Baylands Nature Center.

A little further away, there are some excellent wineries in the Sierra Foothills. Make sure you see Lake Tahoe, too.

I'd check out the Aquarium and Alcatraz, but Fish are my other 'inexpensive' hobby. Next time I go to Vegas, I think I'll make a side trip.

Things to see in SF Bay Area

You could visit Mt. Diablo, in Contra Costa County. You can see more of the earth's serface from the lookout than anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere. A good crisp, clear, winter morning is the best. Also, when visiting Muir Woods, try China Camp State Park which is on the bay. Visit at sunrise. It's beautiful. Also, Lawrence hall of Science, above Cal's football stadium has a great view. Looking west you can see the Golden Gate Bridge, The San Franscisco Bay Bridge and the Richardson Bridge (Richmond to San Rafael). The three bridges frame Alcatraz Island. All this can be done for free, Except entrance into the Hall of Science. You can still enjoy the view.

Take routes 17 or 9 over to Santa Cruz and visit the nude beach.

                      I would do this: http://www.iflysfbay.com/

                      Vertical Wind Tunnel

If you like Roller Coasters you should try Great America. Marine World Africa in Vallejo is fun too.

The Winchester Mystery house is pretty incredible too. Amazing what a crazy person with too much money can do.
