    My new "kids"

A robin decided to build a nest on the light outside my garage. She sat on the eggs for weeks, and about 2 weeks ago they finally hatched.

There were 3 chicks, and the last one "flew the coop" yesterday. (First pic shows them newly hatched, last pic is just before the kid tried out his new wings.)

I feel like a proud daddy!

In a world where too many people would knock the nest off of the light because it made a mess I am glad to see that you took to heart the task given to you to protect them. I can see in your future some nesting platforms....

OK! OK! I'll fess up. I'm guilty. But it was on top of my window AC, and they were doves that cooed every early morning. but there were no eggs just the nest.

Cute little family members I'd say.
Do you keep the light on at night?

          Guilty also.

I hated it, but I was up my roof tearing out an old chimney and found a bird nest inside. Damage was done by a brick before I noticed. It was kind of hard to finish that job with the parents flying around the rest of the day.

I have torn down other nests before eggs were laid also, but that was necessary, and they can easily recover from that. Kind of like me restarting a wood working project I guess.

That reminds me -- took this pic (with phone camera and mirror) over the weekend while trimming our little ornamental crab tree. Hope I didn't upset the homestead too much.

Not to worry. Doves are used to rebuilding their nests. They have absolutely no idea what they are doing. They tried to build a nest on a 1.5" ledge outside my office window. Didn't take. Now they have a sort of flop-house assembly of sticks in the plum tree. Dopes.

Nice pics, Jeff. We got all gaga over the hummingbirds a month or so ago. Now the neighborhood is enjoying a young family of red-tail hawks. They're causing all kinds of madness. There's no crows around, though. I don't think I'll be able to get pics of their nest. It's about 50' up a pine tree.

Tom, when I first saw that picture I thought that was a magnifying glass! Mini boiled egg anyone?
