    GPS Can't Cure Stupid

This guy is handling this mixup way better than I would have. There should be more than a fine for this type of destruction of personal property, this is criminal.

I saw that on HLN a couple days ago. Just crazy.

I'd sure be filing a civil case too.

Not really criminal, just mind-blowingly stupid.

How do you figure it's not criminal to destroy someone's home?

It was done by mistake. That doesn't mean they don't bear responsibility. Only that it is not criminal.

There was a time when someone dumb enough to do that would have been removed from the gene pool early on.

I agree that was a pretty stupid move on the contractors part but I'm not so sure that guy doesn't share some of the blame. It sure sounded to me like he had a conversation with the contractor prior to the actual demolition. If that's the case, why didn't he just sit on the front stoop and wait for the police to arrive? I doubt if any contractor would have laid a hand on him to move him out of the way.

I wondered about that too, but just assumed that he must of got there when it was in progress already (or even after it was essentially done, but they were still there)

What kind of a company would only give GPS coordinates? That's insane.

My thoughts exactly... though I would have sat there waiting while cleaning a gun...

I didn't see anywhere that he had a conversation prior to the demo. I think the conversation he had was after it was done. He is a more graceful man than I am.

Don't they have street addresses with house numbers down there?

I think he would have been the first person in history to need a wrecking ball removed from a certain orifice if it was my house.

Thats the point... the crew didn't *have* a street address. They were given GPS coordinates to his driveway - which depending on how good the satellite fix was when they were taken, can have an error of anywhere from a few meters to a few *dozen* meters. GPS coordinates are good for getting you close - sometimes *really* close, but they are not a substitute for common sense and a house number!

Yeah, I know what folks are saying about the appearance of a conversation before the demo. I think that comes from the video of the dumpsters and bulldozer. But that was taken after the house was destroyed, but before this video of everything being gone.

This is right up there with the people who have driven into lakes, etc. by blindly following their GPS.

Can you imagine the number of PRICELESS family heirlooms that were in that home? I really hope he can!
