What the... No way... What is this thing?

An old baby picture appeared on my slide show widget and this time it caught my attention. This is a picture of me circa 1969, and I appear to be gnawing on a recordable CD or DVD. Um... that just ain't right.

Was I that ahead of my time? What could that shiny silvery disc actually be?

If I squint, I can even read the label: "TDK - 1-16X 4.7GB"

...and just for kicks, here's a great shot of my mother driving the same car Clark Gable had (only white). One of 50... wow... Too bad it's not still in the family!

Since the CD wasn't invented til the late 70's and introduced in 1982, I don't know what that is. By the way, is that a crib or a toy box.

I'm thinking that might be one of your kids? Here is what I found after a quick search (one of many links)

I am sure that DVDs were not around in 1969, nor was storage measured in gigabytes.

Methinks Alex has found the pleasures of photoshopping...

No, I promise -- It's a picture of me around 1969, and it's not photoshopped (or gimped or altered in any way). I know it can't really be a CD but it sure as heck looks like one to me!!

I thought maybe it was a torus-shaped teething ring, but it looks too thin for that -- maybe an optical illusion?

Oh, I think it's a crib. But apparently I used it as a toybox, too!

(And the car picture is real, too, believe it or not!)

Could it be a teething ring/toy shaped to look like a vinyl record?

That could be -- I do vaguely remember having a toy record player... Best guess so far, as far as I['m concerned.

Not sure what the teether is, but it looks to me like you had a (somewhat) older sibling who wanted to make sure the new baby brother had plenty to play with. I have a 6 year old girl and a 6 month old boy. Keeping her off of him can be sort of like play goalie in a soccer game. That crib/toy box combo looks like something she would have done if we'd had him when she was a couple of years younger.

                    ??

My nieces and nephews around that time had some small 33 1/3 records about that size, but they were usually in a funky color like yellow or red. I don't remember seeing one that color. By the way, I graduated from high school in 1968, so thank you for making me feel old again.

After looking at the picture many times, I don't think it's a disk at all. I think it's more rounded ring-like than disk-like. Look at the way you were holding it. It appears to be rounded in your hand. That being said I think it's a toy ring from a ring toss game.

                      Could be wrong though.

I think the answer is obvious: Even at a young age, you had the ability to bend the time/space continuum.

Or it is a vinyl record. But I think the former is more likely.

It looks a lot like a 33 1/3 rpm kids record. Early Barney songs and the like. I had a GF who babysat and one of the little brats just had to play her record, one day it disappeared. I think I gave it to your mom......

Looks like one of those teething rings that was filled with a liquid and then you could freeze it. Used to give those to my little girl in the early 70's when she was having trouble with those first teeth. She loved it.

Yeah, yeah, teething, cd, dvd, blah blah blah. What's the car?? That is far more interesting to me! That is one beautiful ride, and from what I can tell your mother looks like she was made to drive it. Almost Isadora Duncan, wihout the tragic ending!

Never mind, just clicked on the link. That is one spectacular piece of machinery!
