glad to see your healing up, and that you still have some of the thumb...
I would imagine that on that hand at least, the rest of your fingers are going to have to be that much more flexible to accommodate the reduced length of your thumb when you have to pinch something between your stump and fore-finger...
and I would imagine that this "gentle" saftey reminder has spawned all sorts of jig designs in your head that will keep your other 9 well away from high-speed steel

Good luck! Your doc did a good job--you might have to send him or her a box of chocolates...Jeff

Rod, good to see things are getting better. I'm not sure if you posted this before, but I didn't know if the doctor's attempted to save the end of the thumb, or if it was not even possible.
just wonderingComment

Unfortunately, not possible. The Doc (plastic surgeon), said it was "shattered beyond repair"
I guess a tungsten tipped saw blade will do that.

You may not have the end of your thumb, but it looks like you still have fingerprints in the close up pic.

That's the first thing I noticed. Now Rod really has to be a good boy because they won't have any trouble finding him if he leaves a thumb print.
Glad to hear you're doing well, Rod. Don't get over ambitious for a while.
EdDo you know about kickback? Ray has a good writeup here... https://www.sawdustzone.org/articles...mare-explained

Wow Rod. I've read several posts about injuries but nothing hammers it home like pics. Hopefully you continue to have a good recovery. I hope this is a reminder to everyone here about keeping safety first, especially when you see it can even happen to the pros. I know it has for me.I reject your reality and substitute my own.Comment

Honestly, it looks a whole heckuva lot better that I expected. Glad to see you are mending so well.
I had to make a couple of quick cuts on the table saw a week or so ago. The entire time it was on, all I could think about was making sure I didn't have the same accident.
For some reason, your accident has freaked me out more than the time I found the tip of my figer brushing the side of the blade on my old Crapsman. I still have the "pucker mark" in my shorts from that one.
One question, how is it riding the Vespa now? When I'm on my little Rebel 250, I don't seem to need the tips of the thumbs as much as I would've thought. I usually have the throttle in the crook between the thumb and hand. Brakes and clutch, I use the tips all the time.
