    Reunion Anyone?

Yup, the first week of June is reunion time for my high school. I've attended a few of them, and it's local for me. They're gonna have it at a hotel on the beach, parties, dinners, etc.

I'm not excited about going, and I may not, but there are a few buddies that I've maintained friendship through college and the military that are attending. One is coming from California, the other from Washington state.

I can't really express exactly how I feel about reunions. If anyone has gone to one you probably know what I mean.

"I went to mine. Everyone was the same except they all swelled"--Joan Cusack paraphrased in Grosse Pointe Blank, which may be the best reunion movie made.

I haven't gone to any of mine, except the 5 year. I graduated with my best friend, and now he and his family live 3 doors down from me, and that's all the reunion I need. He is on Facebook, and they have started a group of all our classmates. I have looked at the group woth my wife's account, and it reminded me why I don't need to go to any reunions.

No reunions for me. I went to our first reunion, 5 years I think, maybe it was 10. Too many people trying to be someone they weren't.

I have met a few old classmates through the years. Meeting them outside the atmosphere of the reunion was good. I guess they didn't feel like they had to prove anything to me because I have always been just another guy, nothing special, like a pulitzer prize winner.

The funniest thing I find about them is that virtually everyone looks older than me!

Of course, this is something that is probably repeated by everyone who goes!

              I did

I went to my 40th. Being that many years I knew what some had done and what BS was being spread. I thought it was quite entertaining. It seems that after 40 years most everyone had mellowed out. One of the funniest things was watching people try to focus their bifocals to read the name tags!

Grosse Point Blank was a great movie.

I have no wish to go to mine. High School wasn't a really happy place for me. The few people I am still in contact with I manage to see every couple years without going to a reunion.

I went to my 10th because it only required a trip from Georgia to Florida. These days, I have better things to do with my time and money. Besides, the few people I would really like to see probably won't show up.

I don't go to college reunions for the same reason.

I went to my 10th (in the 11th year) and realized I didn't hang around with anyone in my grade when I was in HS. I didn't care for any of the people that showed up so I sat at a table of people I didn't even know went to my school and drank profusely, that cheered me up, and they were interesting people.

I went to my 30th and I won't go to another. Same little clics that were together back then gathered and ignored everyone else.

                          Reunion

Like some of the others, I went to my 5 year reunion and didn't go to any others.

There was one guy in particular that kept disrupting everything they tried to do. He won't go to any more either. His son murdered him a few years back. He shot him, his dad's live in girl friend and a heath care worker who came in to check on his grandmother. He then sat down and had coffee until the police arrived.

I got my jointer at his estate sale.

I went to our 10 year reunion and I wasn't impressed. Like everyone else the same old clics and people looking at you funny. I drank with a few of my friends and watched the video they made of our senior year. Now I think that I will just call and invite the few friends that are here in town and around the area and have them over to my place for a BBQ and just hang out.

But what I find funny is that some of my classmates that I didn't talk to or hang around with in school are now friendly and act like we were friends in school...Maybe some people change.
