Flash memory questions - Micro SDHC/SD

SDHC is a newer specification than the original SD media, and the SDHC cards are usually clear to indicate "compatible with SDHC readers."

But what about Micro SDHC cards that come with SD adapters? (Like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134527) The actual card is SDHC, but the reader just says SD. Does this mean that I can use a Micro SDHC card in an older SD reader if I use the included adapter, or does the adapter just step it up to the larger SDHC size?

    Thanks!

I think it just steps it up. A few weeks ago one of the dogs chewed on the SD adapter for the micro SD card in my wife's phone - not that she ever uses the adapter. I took it apart and it was just a straight through connection, no electronics inside.

Good question. I just went through some of this when I recently dropped my Treo (SD-size cards) and had to replace it with a Centro (MicroSD-size cards).

I'm virtually certain David is correct: the adapter just handles the physical size change. Otherwise you'd have to have two different adapters, for non-HC and for HC cards. But even if the adapter is specific to HC cards, the non-HC reader would likely not be able to "talk" to the adapter. The reader would become the non-compatible link in the chain.

The adapter is just a pass-thru, the card reader must support SDHC. DAMHIKT, but I ended up having to put my SDHC into my phone and using a USB cable to read it on my PC.

If you are looking for a SDHC - USB reader this $3.00 [incl s/h] works well.

Thanks for the link. I ordered one. I had a bunch of pictures on the sd card in my camera and couldn't download some on my XP pc. Had to use the wife's Vista pc. I think this will overcome that problem. My pc predates the sdhc spec.
