    It hasn't gone away . . . .

Mt. Redoubt continues to do its thing. According to the AVO, it is putting out an almost continuous plume of steam and ash, up to as highs as 20,000 feet. Fortunately, the ash is not getting very far from the volcano.

According to the experts, it is rebuilding its dome. They say that could be a dangerous time because if the dome-building clogs the vent, pressure could build, creating a scenario leading to a new explosive eruption.

That doesn't mean that a dangerous lady can't be really good looking. Here's a picture captured from the AVO webcam (http://www.avo.alaska.edu/activity/Redoubt.php) at sunrise.

I wonder if all the environmental activists have set up protests telling the volcano to stop the pollution.

I'd break out my respirator, and plan an exit route.

Well they have to hope for enough sulfer dioxide and particulate matter reflecting sunlight to offset various greenhouse gasses (in the short term it usually is from what I've read).

Acid rain and soot in your lungs and on everything really is a small price to pay isn't it?

Steve, how far away from it are you? At first I thought you took the pic
from your house. That would be cool but scary.

I did hear that Nancy P has motioned to sanction the mountain, and charge it $1T in pollution taxes....

Learned something new today. I did a little more reading on the subject and Volcanos don't produce as much greenhouse gas as I thought they did.

The volcano is about 110 miles southwest from Anchorage, and that's across about 85 miles of water (Cook Inlet). The camcorder that took this picture is about 7.5 miles from the summit. By the way, there are two other camcorders focused on Mt. Redoubt. You can see their pictures and other images on the website linked in the original post. Mt. Redoubt is one of four active volcanoes that border the west side of Cook Inlet.

We are pretty safe from any volcanic event except ash fall and that could be pretty nasty, both on people and machinery. We did get a tiny amount of ash and, as the snow melts, it is leaving a residue on exposed surfaces. If we don't get a good rain, it will have to be hosed off.

Some areas of the Kenai Peninsula got some serious ash fall and that will have to be dealt with.

There are places on the Kenai that do afford pretty good views but you would need binoculars or telescopes to match the ones from the camcorder.

Almost as nasty as southern California smog or second-hand smoke.

                  Regards, Steve

I think the mountain wants a sacrifice and I am pretty sure it doesn't need to be a wergen. Maybe a package deal...Both Nancy and Sarah.

Wouldn't that be like putting matter and antimatter?
Be the biggest blowup in history.

That being said, I was in North Dakota when Mount St. Helens blew. We could see the ash cloud coming in. Made for a couple of nice sunsets. The whole area was a light grey before it was done. That's quite a distance. And DON"T wipe it off (as some found out), rinse it off thoroughly.
