    Another Discovery

I watched the "Britain's Got Talent" opening show last night. Fairly mediocre, apart from Susan Boyle - WOW! What a surprise

IMO, "WOW" doesn't even give enough credit. She has some extraordinary voice. I'm surprised she wasn't "found" sooner. Is that contest like "American Idol" where she would move on to more competition?

Yes, the same old format, with "voting" later on, but far wider-ranging than just singing. You've got "America's Got Talent," compered by Jerry Springer, as I recall.

The song she chose was a winner for me, as it's my favorite (serious) song from "Les Miserables" (the Landlord's Song being the other). Difficult to sing because of the range, but Susan certainly did it proud.

Quite a coincidence. I just happened to wander into that 2 minutes before I read your post.
I loved Simon's comment about how he knew she was going to be extraordinary the minute she stepped on the stage, especially after the look they showed on his face when she said she was 47.

I don't usually click on these links. I am glad I decided to do so this time.

There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe what I just listened to! Let's hope she is in it to start a career and not just wanting "fifteen minutes of fame".

You can tell by the look on Simons face that she is going to do well. Thanks for putting that up there Ray.

Wide range, exceptional control, and oodles of power. Killer combination. Thanks for the link.

My only complaint is that the audience was too loud.

47 years old, and just now being discovered?? She's way too good for that. No doubt in my mind that she's really an American import, just like the Beatles and Eric Clapton.

Like Pappy.. I don't usually click on these links but... I did in this case and was totally enthralled by Susan's performance. Outstanding.. superb.. there aren't enough adjectives to describe how moved I was by gift she has to deliver that kind of range that totally captured my attention.

Good luck to Susan in the competition but.. I don't think luck will play much of a role from what I witnessed and heard.

Her voice quite literally speaks for itself. With the UK so big on musical theater, possibly a career on the stage is in the offing. (BTW, nobody will be able to say she made it on her looks, either...)

That is exactly what I was thinking as she started. A mild manner unassuming English character until they start to sing. Bravo!

I just caught this excerpt on MSNBC.com:
She said she was 47 years old, unemployed, and lived alone with her cat, Pebbles. She had never gone on a date and had never been kissed, she added in a thick brogue.

                              Like that's pertinent.
