    Kudos to Stanley Tool Co.

Recently I had a Stanley pneumatic nail gun break due to the failure of a major internal part after some minimal use. Their customer service department was very polite and even sent some free 0-rings, but the upshot was that they did not carry parts for the model of Stanley nailer that I had purchased, just two years earlier. I suspected that I had a product that had been branded by them, but not manufactured and hence supported by them.

Since my nailer was now destined for the landfill anyway, I thought I might send them a letter and explain my frustration.

A week after my letter to one of their corporate officers, I received a nice email and a new 16 gauge Bostitch / Stanley nailer that works like a dream on trim and molding. My faith in American tool companies was restored.

On a related note, the second defective Harbor Freight brand pin nailer that I purchased for $19.00 goes back tonight. If you factor in the cost of nails and my trouble, it was hardly a bargain and I’ll just get my money back this time. Think I’ll buy a Bostitch / Stanley; they make a nice 23 gauge model.

Sometimes quality trumps price and the older I get the more I think that way.

They stepped up for you, and now you will buy their products in the future, so it is a win-win. Wish more companies would see that it still works that way.

Great to hear stories like that about any company, especially American companies!

My arsonal is all Stanley/Bostitch & I make a living with them. If you catch a local Building Material Supplier that sells them, they usually have a Stanley/Bostitch day where they have special deals & a couple of Stanley/Bostitch reps on site that day. The reps take Stanley/Bostitch pneumatic nail guns & fix them free of charge that day. Oh yeah, they usually have free hotdogs & hamburgers too.

I managed to break a Stanley rachet. I called the company. No questions asked. I got a "Thanks for buying Stanley tools. Sorry you had a problem. Your new rachet will go out today. Is there anything else I can do for you?" I really like it when it works that way.

You might want to first read the reviews on their pinner.

I bought one last summer, and it doesn't sink the pins deeply enough. Usually they are flush with the surface. It leaves a small dent in the wood, also.

At least the one I bought did this, anyways.
