My dog is not very brave

I just finished a partial remodeling job in the bathroom. I tore up the old sub floor, and installed a new one. I had my shop vac sitting near Layla's water bowl. She decided to get a drink. But when she saw the shop vac, the hair went up on her back, and she walked very carefully to her water. Just a real quick sip, and she was out of there. So I walked to the shop vac, and called her. She came to me, but she kept her eye on that shop vac. She also didn't like the fact that the toilet and vanity had been moved to another place in the house. This from an 88 lb. German Shepherd.

Some are, some aren't! My ww buddy has a blk lab that thinks I am part of the family. Wore a touque with ear flaps one day (instead of my usual Griz ball cap). Walked into the shop; well, poor
dog had a fit! Hair up on her back, tail between legs, crept under a table until I spoke her name; even then she was pretty leery until she got up the guts to smell me. Motto: Don't change things no matter how small! We all (except the dog) had
a chuckle!

I suppose if you're going to burglarize a house with a resident dog, disguising yourself as some sort of vacuum cleaner would be a pretty safe bet.

My male loves my shop vac. He thinks it is his. Everytime I walk away from it for more than 4 minutes he always comes over to 'mark it again' if it's not inside the shop. I think I finally convinced him that he doesn't get to mark anything that's inside.

Ed...you got yourself a woose. Give her to me for 6 weeks and she will be a different dog. My small GSD is 86lbs and she picks off low flying birds, takes out raccoons, squirrels, and iguanas. Our larger one is 105 lbs and will eat my shop vac...while it's running. She goes after my lawnmower, grabs a wheel, and drags it across the yard. You're missin' out on all the fun...so is the dog.

Geez...Even my moms little cocker raised a seriously threatening ruckus when I brought my boxer over.

Of course he was hiding behind her and peeing on the floor while he did it. But no vacuum could withstand his wrath.

The only things I've seen her really concerned about are the shop vac and our wood blinds. We have squirrels who come to eat from our bird feeder, which is just outside our window. Since we got the wood blinds, she doesn't jump up there anymore (that's good). She loves to play with the lawn mower too. And she really enjoys killing rabbits. She killed a possum, but she got a pretty nasty gash on her nose from that encounter.

Sounds just like my Coco also a German Shepard. She really hates the vacuum cleaner. When the wife is using it she hides under my desk.

Yup, sounds like Bindi. Ninty pounds of King Shephard and tougher than anything or anyone-except the vacuum.

We found her chewing on this one day.

I remember many years ago our family had an old basset hound for many years (seems like a hundred). "Gator" had assumed his accustomed position of sitting up on his haunches at the dinner table begging for scraps. Suddenly and without warning, my father's dentures fell out of his head and landed on the floor near Gator's perch. The poor dog absolutely had a nervous breakdown on the spot, and his personality was never the same again, particularly around my dad... Sad, but true story...

"Gator" had assumed his accustomed position of sitting up on his haunches at the dinner table begging for scraps. Suddenly and without warning, my father's dentures fell out of his head and landed on the floor near Gator's perch. The poor dog absolutely had a nervous breakdown on the spot, and his personality was never the same again, particularly around my dad... Sad, but true story...

I wonder if it was the sound that triggered the reaction? My old basset had a similar reaction to a hoof. I picked up a hoof part at the pet store to see if she'd like it for a chew toy. I tossed it to her and when it hit the hardwood floor and started clattering she started running backwards with a really scared look on her and then sliding all over the place running from it. Berserk would be the word for it. She finally bolted down the back hall and went straight through the screen door. It took a few days for her to come back into the living room.

Nope. Carpet on the floor. I think he just felt strongly that something was very wrong...
