    magsforless.com

    Hi all,

Back in January of 2007 there was a thread here regarding a $4.99 subscription for American Woodworker. I know a lot of people here signed up for it before it was discovered this was a scam operation. I was one of those people. Just this morning I received the following email:

    ******************************************
    Dear Customer,

Our company has entered into a settlement agreement with the Attorney
General of the State of New York in People of the State of New York v.
Magzforless LLC, et al. (Index No. 403298/08). Under this agreement,
consumers who purchased magazine subscriptions from MagsForLess.com
and did not receive their orders are entitled to refunds.

If you placed an order with us but did not receive your subscription or
a refund, please reply to this email to inform us if you would like
your subscription or a refund. If you would like a refund please
reply to this email and include your name, mailing address, order
number (if you have it), and a description of the nature of the
problem with your order. Please ensure that all the above information
is included so that we can process your request within a week.

If you would like your magazine subscription that you originally
ordered, please reply to this email with your order details and we
will process your subscription within a week.

If you have any questions please email us at questions@magsforless.com.

    Sincerely,

    MagsForLess

I just thought I'd give a heads up on this in case anyone that signed up for this changed their email address or used an account they don't usually check.

    Cheers,
    Scott

I received this email too and responded to it. I hope it's not just another scam.

I was another of their scam victims but so far no email here. Color me vindictive but I think they should not only pay the money back with a credit card average interest rate applied but there should also be a punitive award tacked on. I know that won't happen but people like that are scum and deserve no mercy in my book. If they don't have enough money to pay everyone back then when the money runs out they should go away and make license plates for a few years. Can you tell that I hate a thief?

They are scum and I am also surprised they aren't required to pay some kind of penalty for scamming their victims. Maybe there is more to this settlement than we are aware of.

I didn't order but just attempted to Google for some reference and came up empty except for a Dealsforless site that requires a login. I'm not sure if I would trust the email yet.

I found this link to the Office of the Attorney General for the State of New York which seems to legitimize the fact there is a settlement. But that still doesn't mean the email was legit.

Scam victim here too. I think I'm entitled to punitive damages for pain and suffering too! My confidence has never been the same, and it's impacted my upward mobility at work. I'm not all that greedy...$2.2M, plus the $4.99 should do it...I'll submit request.

Well, I don't see where the opportunity for another scam is here... I went ahead and responded, requesting they give me my subscription as originally requested. I received an automated reply saying "The customer service team has received your email and a new ticket has been created. Your ticket ID is ***-****-***. We will respond to emails in the order they were received. You should receive a reply within 1-2 days.

If anyone has any idea how this could be another scam I'd like to hear about it.

I wanted to give an update on this.

After receiving an email with a confirmation number stating that I would receive a follow-up email in a few days, I heard nothing back. Late last week, I sent them the following:

                    ////////////

                    Hello,

Why have I not yet recieved a response as promised below? Please respond by 3/25/09 or my next email will be to the Attorney General of the State of New York.

                    Regards,
                    Scott Allen

                    ////////////

At this point I started receiving emails from real people instead of automated responses. Long story short, they have "promised" (for what that's worth) to fulfill my subscription, and also gave me a $10 credit for their site, which I used to order a sub-$10 subscription (no way am I giving them my credit card number again!).

It will be interesting to see if I actually receive either subscription, but it was fulfilling to see them jump to action when I mentioned the New York Attorney General. I just thought this might help others in the same situation.

                    Scott
