I downloaded the unRAID system and downloaded a boot loader. I need that because unRAID was designed to go on bootable USB but the Dell doesn't have that support. The bootloader is a CD image that you can boot and then boot USB.

    If anybody is interested: http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.html

Oops, I was a little distracted. I meant a 250MB drive. It was late, and we were trying to get an uncooperative child in the bed.

About a year later I saw an ad for a 9GB SCSI drive. They wanted a little less than $9,000 for it! It was several years later before I could afford a drive of that size.

Seriously, I never got the chance to use one, but it appears that they were great machines. Seems like there is always someone around that has used them.

          .
I remember buying a 200MB drive for 200 bucks and getting a heckuva deal. I am looking at prices now and a SATA 1.5TB drive retails for a bit over 100 bucks. My dad said he remembers a 10MB selling for several thousand.

It all depends on what motherboard you get. Some do not support ECC memory. Check before you buy. Also ECC memory tends to be just a tad more expensive than the more common non-ECC type.

On hard drive sizes and computing in the stone age....

I hit the computer thing just when prices started to be affordable. You could get a whopping 5.24" 20MB seagate hard drive for around $250. They sounded like a hive of bee's in your computer. A friend of mine bought a 225MB SCSI hard drive that had 7 platters that cost him in the neighborhood of $1000 probably around 1987-88.
I build my dad a computer some years ago I think 2001. He got a 10GB drive and he paid $120 for it. Now $120 will get you a 1 terabyte drive or larger.
I am waiting for large solid state drives to become affordable. The silence will be nice.
